Singapore’s jobless rate up in fourth quarter
Singapore’s jobless rate grew to 2.2 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2010, up from 2.1 per cent in the previous three-month period.
According to the Ministry of Manpower, the annual unemployment rate averaged an estimated 2.2 per cent, down from 3 per cent in 2009 on the economic recovery.
Total employment grew by 112,500 jobs last year, exceeding the gains of 37,600 in 2009, while 9,800 workers lost their job in 2010, compared to 23,430 a year earlier, the ministry said.
The total workforce stood at 3.1 million at the end of December, it said.
