A PAP delegation of 46 MPs and activists will arrive in Jiangsu province of China tomorrow for a six-day visit at the invitation of Jiangsu Party Secretary Liang Baohua.
Led by Khaw Boon Wan and Lee Yi Shyan, the group will be one of the largest party delegations ever received by the Chinese Communist Party. The visit is aimed at promoting ties between the two political parties and facilitating an exchange of views and experiences on topics like youth engagement, said a statement from the PAP headquaters.
Mr Lee said that the delegation would study how the Communist Party is organised in the province, and how it reaches out its citizens at the grassroot level. The PAP's interest in the CCP mirrors a similiar interest the Chinese has displayed in the PAP. The Chinese feel that there must be "something the PAP is doing right" since it has stayed in power for five decades, noted Mr Lee.
"So they have been coming here to study us but I think we have come to a point where we also need to understand the challenges they face, the thinking they have, and how they plan to move forward.", added Mr Lee
