The fire started in the living room.

A fire broke out at Block 465B Yishun Street 44 on at about 2:25am due to a personal mobility device (PMD).

Four people were taken to the hospital and 40 residents from the affected block were evacuated.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire and swiftly extinguished it.

Based on the SCDF's preliminary investigations, the fire started in the living room of a third-floor unit and likely originated from the PMD.

Four persons from the affected unit were assessed for smoke inhalation and brought to Singapore General Hospital.

All four residents from the affected unit have since been discharged, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nee Soon GRC, Syed Harun Alhabsyi, shared in a Facebook post.

He added that the Housing & Development Board and Nee Soon Town Council, along with grassroot leaders, will assist the affected family in this time of need.

Charging of PMD Batteries

SCDF also reminded the public not to buy or use non-original batteries for their active mobility aids such as PMDs and Power Assisted Bicycles (PABs).

PMD or PAB batteries should not be charged overnight or for an extended period of time, added the SCDF.

For more information and tips on the safe use and charging of such devices can be found here.
