SHAH ALAM - Another four suspects have been detained in connection with the robbery and rape of a 24-year-old American teacher, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to 11.
Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the suspects, who were arrested in Banting on Tuesday, were being detained to assist in the investigations.
"A special task force was set up after the incident. We have arrested several gang members since March 13, bringing the total number of those arrested to 11," he told a press conference yesterday.
DCP Tun Hisan said initial investigations revealed the "taxi robber" gang were involved in 19 cases in Selangor and 18 others in Kuala Lumpur.
"The modus operandi was to pick up victims, mainly women, from shopping malls and tourist locations before the bogus taxi driver picks up another man, who is an accomplice.
"They then drive to a secluded area before robbing the victim at knife point and leaving them by the road side.
"We believe we have arrested all the gang members," he said
