4 caught for loanshark advertising
By Vanessa Jalleh
FOUR youths, aged 15 to 16, have been arrested for allegedly helping loansharks advertise by distributing stickers and namecards. The youths were caught loitering around the void deck of Block 340 in Jurong East Avenue 1 on Nov 11.
They had a paper box containing stickers and namecards, which are believed to advertise 'easy loans' for loansharks. The suspects were immediately placed under arrest and the items, along with their handphones, were confiscated.
It was later revealed that two of the youths had earlier been approached by a man from a distribution company who offer them $17 per person for every 1,000 namecards and stickers handed out.
The two suspects then pulled in two other friends to help them, on the same terms. The suspects have been released on bail and investigations are still on-going.
