4 arrested for rioting at Chai Chee

Police have arrested four male suspects aged between 23 and 54 believed to be involved in a case of rioting along Chai Chee Road.


Police were alerted to the fight at about 11.45pm on Jan 18. Upon the officers' arrival, a male victim was found injured and he was conveyed while conscious to Changi General Hospital.


Officers from the Bedok Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Division established the identities of the assailants swiftly and four male suspects were apprehended in the vicinity of Chai Chee the next day.


Based on preliminary investigations, the fight was triggered by a staring incident.


Two of the suspects will be charged in Court on Jan 22, 2013, for the offence of Rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code Chapter 224.


If convicted, they face a jail term of up to seven years and caning. Investigation against the remaining suspects is ongoing.

In sinkie, fighting among themselves is rioting. One man protest can also be classified as illegal assembly.:rolleyes:
 
Likely to be a case whereby First Info Report (FIR) from a member of public indicated more than 5 were involved. Arrest of 4 does not mean 4 involved. Sections 143, 147 and 148 - minimum 5 to be involved.
