It is comprehensible that there will be controversies over the fate of a mere physical object such as the property that sits on 38 Oxley Road.

However, it is NOT just a MERE PHYSICAL object, but an 'ALAMO' - the very LAST redoubt, safe and holding place when the FATE of Singapore lays in, the very last place that our Founding fathers could conduct a safe meeting from THREATS from EVERY corner - the colonist Brits, Polynesian Arab colonists on racial and religion supremacy, the Communists from China, etc....and the eventual BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS DECISIONS our Founding fathers made that CREATED our todays.....

If we, a civilized Nation, can honor an ex-colonial structure known as the Istana, how then can we not honor our 'Last Alamao' that changed the fate of our Nation?

On the practical side of costs, that property will have to be paid according to determined market value, est to be $24 Million. However, that property is PRICELESS - would any citizen want some rich fool local or overseas to desecrate that building, the very ROOTS that MODERN SINGAPORE began?

Singapore is a democracy, with ELECTED legislators in Parliament. They REPRESENT us. WE empower them. Our great Founding father, the late Mr, Lee Kuan Yew, HAD left the fate of his property to a DECISION by Parliament.

And a decision had been made by us - THIS GENERATION - thru our ELECTED Legislators, to keep that site, not on any religious grounds, but on Civilization grounds, of how we got our todays, to be shared amongst ourselves and to innocent generations to come.

38 Oxley Rd is YOURS..... WE COLLECTIVELY AS CITIZENS..... OWN IT....to honor and treat that memorable structure with respect, by oneself, visitors and innocent generations to come...

a i commentary :

⚖️ 1. Legal background

Under Singapore law, the government may designate a property as a “national monument” under the Preservation of Monuments Act 2009 (administered by the National Heritage Board or NHB).
This designation gives the State power to:

protect, restrict alteration, or acquire the site,
even if the site is privately owned.
The process begins with a “Notice of Intention to Gazette”, which the government issued in November 2025 for 38 Oxley Road.

---

2. Rights of the current owner (Lee Hsien Yang)

If Lee Hsien Yang is indeed the sole legal owner (via the estate or transfer), he has a few procedural rights and possible courses of action — though they are limited in scope.

(a) Submit an objection

When the NHB issues a Notice of Intention to Gazette, the owner has the right to object in writing within a statutory period (usually 28 days).

The objection can be on grounds such as:
the site is not of national significance,
preservation imposes unreasonable hardship, or the process is procedurally unfair or ultra vires (beyond legal powers).

If he submits an objection, NHB must consider it and can either:

accept the objection and withdraw or modify the decision, or reject it and proceed to gazette the site formally.

(Reference: Preservation of Monuments Act, s. 9(2)–(3))

---

(b) Judicial Review in the High Court

If the NHB (or government) proceeds to gazette the property despite his objection, Lee Hsien Yang can apply to the High Court for judicial review — challenging the decision on administrative law grounds such as:

Procedural unfairness

Irrationality or unreasonableness

Breach of legitimate expectation

Constitutional property rights infringement (Article 9 or 12 read with Article 13 of the Constitution)

However, judicial review does not automatically stop the gazetting — he would need to apply for a stay of proceedings or interim injunction pending the outcome.

Historically, Singapore courts give the government wide discretion in matters of national heritage, so success is uncertain.

---

(c) Negotiate conditions or compensation

If the site is ultimately preserved or acquired:

He may negotiate for compensation (at market value or agreed rate) if the government compulsorily acquires the property under the Land Acquisition Act.

Alternatively, if only partial restrictions are imposed (no acquisition), he could negotiate for maintenance grants or cost-sharing arrangements to upkeep the property under NHB’s heritage funding schemes.

---

️ 3. Realistic outcome

In practice, once a property has been declared of national monument significance, the owner has limited power to prevent preservation, though he can:

delay the process through objections and judicial review, influence what parts are preserved or redeveloped (through technical proposals), and seek compensation if the land is acquired.

---

4. Political / public context

Lee Kuan Yew’s will reportedly expressed a wish for 38 Oxley Road to be demolished after his death, but the government’s stance (since 2016) is that the site holds historic value.

Thus, this issue involves both heritage policy and family legacy, not just property ownership.

---

In summary

If Lee Hsien Yang wants to stop or resist the government’s action:

1. File a formal objection within the statutory period after the “intention to gazette” notice.

2. Engage legal counsel to prepare a judicial review application in the High Court if the decision proceeds.

3. Negotiate with NHB/MCCY for either:
exemption from full gazette, or
conditions that respect the late Lee Kuan Yew’s wishes.

4. If unavoidable, claim compensation if the land is compulsorily acquired.

Lhl think keeping the house will help him win future elections and stay in power?

Do they really want to preserve also the authentic accounts from declassified British archives on sg fight for independence lololololol

Or need to burn some history books cause they don't paint lky in a good light especially during the hey days of barisan socialis and how Lim chin siong and gang actually fought harder and had moar clout on the ground than lky in the fight for SG independence lololololol

Then lky cut a deal with the brits and tunku to shout wumao and do a coldstore to sweep up the political opponents and gain the upper hand for a very clean fight for independence huh lololololol

So much for 'sense of authenticity' huh?

How the fuck does Lee family old house help to put money into sinkies bank accounts

How the fuck does Lee family old house help to put money into sinkies bank accounts
will help directly if demolish it to build giant family office complexes for which less than 1% ish laundry money lololololololo :roflmao:

then the taxes use it to fund CDC vouchers to entertain the IBs so they don't have time to read british archives accounts of what LKY really did in the fight for SG independence lolololololol :roflmao:

That is stolen property if the owners are not justly compensated. PAP behaving just like jews in israel.

chiu know it's not about the money when moar lives can be stolen/destroyed on a carefully crafted narrative as part of a deal... :roflmao:

or when the curious history students trod into the soon to be preserved oxley basement and start questioning all the things LKY did in the fight for SG independence VS the clout of lim chin siong and barisan socialis...

then they go open up the whole pandora box of the political motives behind operation cold store from the british archives lololololololol..... :roflmao:

if only can preserve 38 oxley whilst destroying evidence from British archives lolololololo

“At present they are united only in their dissatisfactions with the P.A.P. Government, and they cannot be considered to form a monolithic Communist edifice under strict Party management (as implied in para 24 of the S.B. paper).”

It seems the Streisand Effect is at play — the more emphasis that’s placed on Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s wish to have the house demolished, the greater the public’s desire becomes to see it preserved.

The best solution is for house to be dismantled and placed in a museum. That way, residence will Get their ambience back. No buses of kids and tourist disturbing the peace.

No lah... Let them preserve it 9696...

Then the living will understand what is the the true consequences and karma of going against LKY & LKY's wife will to demolish the house...

Wonder how does the justice of the grave taste like... :roflmao:

His fractured English littered with bombastic words gives the thread-starter away as a naturalised Sinkie born in China. Hence the gratitude and the sucking-up to the PAP.
maybe some script vetted by pappy grassloots to help with their new citizen or PR application lolololololl :roflmao:

I got a bad feeling that once the PAP-Gov stubbornly preserve the site instead of demolishing it, the curse will fell upon us very soon for not respecting his last wishes.

The clause concerning 38 Oxley Road in former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew's seventh and final will, dated December 17, 2013, expresses his wish for the house to be demolished.

Demolition Clause in the Final Will

The key section, often referred to as the "Demolition Clause," outlines his desire for the fate of his family home:

  • Primary Wish: Mr. Lee expressed the wish of himself and his late wife, Mdm Kwa Geok Choo, for the house to be demolished immediately after his daughter, Dr. Lee Wei Ling, moved out. Dr. Lee Wei Ling was granted the right to reside in the house for as long as she desired, as stipulated in the will.

  • Secondary Wish/Contingency: The clause also acknowledged the possibility that demolition might not be legally feasible due to changes in laws or regulations. In this event, Mr. Lee's wish was that the house "never be opened to others except my children, their families and descendants."

The will states the following (as widely reported in public summaries and statements):

"It is my wish, and the wish of my late wife, Kwa Geok Choo, that our house at 38 Oxley Road, Singapore 238797, be demolished immediately after my death, or if my daughter, Lee Wei Ling, continues to live there, immediately after she moves out. If my children are unable to demolish the House as a result of any changes in the laws, rules or regulations binding them, it is my wish that the House never be opened to others except my children, their families and descendants."

Context of the Will

  • Last Will: This final will, executed in December 2013, reinstated the demolition clause, which had been removed in the fifth and sixth versions of his seven total wills.

  • Equal Division: The final will also provided for the estate to be divided equally among his three children.

  • Executors: His younger children, Dr. Lee Wei Ling and Mr. Lee Hsien Yang, were named the legal executors of the estate.

The interpretation and execution of this clause have been the subject of a long-running public dispute among the siblings, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Dr. Lee Wei Ling (who passed away in October 2024), and Mr. Lee Hsien Yang, regarding the emphasis placed on the demolition versus the preservation/privacy contingency.

“To Whom It May Concern” — The Final Words for a Family That Stopped Speaking

38 Oxley Road is quiet now.
No lights on. No voices inside. Just a gate covered in government letters.

All addressed: “To whom it may concern.”

But here’s the truth:

️ Lee Kuan Yew — gone
️ His wife — gone
️ Lee Wei Ling — gone
✈️ Lee Hsien Yang — self-exiled
️ Lee Hsien Loong — lives in SG but not at 38 Oxley Road

No one’s home.
No one left to open the gate.
So who are these letters really for?

The only person they could possibly “concern”…
is the one who sent them.
The son who now runs the country.
The brother who wanted the home gazetted.
The man who — in the end — sent official letters
to his own empty family home…
to make it look official.

That’s not just formality.
That’s heartbreak dressed in bureaucracy.

Because when a family breaks down,
you can put up signs, send notices, declare authority —
but you can’t force healing through pieces of paper.

And maybe that’s what hurts the most.

A father’s final wish ignored.
A house full of history turned into a stage.
A family that once built a nation — now can’t sit at the same table.

If we can’t find peace within,
we’ll lose it in our families.
And if we can’t even hold our family together,
what are we really building for the nation?

A house full of history.
A gate full of letters.
And a father’s final wish still waiting to be heard.

Let’s just hope LKY doesn’t rise from the grave to read the notices himself.

Straight talk. No sugar.
