No wonder why my friend who had visited Malacca recently kept on telling me how much he misses the place!
MALACCA - POLICE rescued three teenagers believed to have been forced into vice when they busted a syndicate offering the sexual services of secondary school students.
State CID chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Adnan Abdullah said seven suspects, including a woman in her 20s who is believed to be the pimp, were arrested in an operation on Monday.
'Besides the female pimp, police also detained another woman and her male companion as they are believed to be involved in the syndicate,' he told reporters yesterday.
He said the activities of the syndicate came to light when a student lodged a police report against one of the suspects, claiming she was forced to entertain men. 'We believe the syndicate was offering the services of the students to clients for between RM60 (S$26) and RM80. Four men were also detained as they are believed to have sought the services of the girls,' he added.
Based on initial investigations, he said the syndicate had been operating from a hotel in the city since May.
ACP Mohd Adnan said the suspects would be charged under the Child Act 2001 and could face a maximum prison sentence of 15 years and a RM50,000 fine or both upon conviction. -- THE STAR/ANN
