Michael Fay got 6 strokes and 4 months jail for spraying some cars and public lamp posts. The caning was subsequently reduced to 4 strokes after Bill Clinton phoned Pres Ong Teng Cheong.

So reducing to 3 means the swiss govt cannot get any lesser for their citizen.

If its a singaporean who breaches the security and did this, he would get more than 5 months jail and more than 6 strokes definitely due to the embarrassment this issue has caused

There you go again, how different are their crimes? Don't just whack one sentence, elaborate and justify.

Essentially, both are vandalism in the eyes of law. Both confer negative externality to the public, which must be stopped. Do you really expect the law to differentiate between different forms of vandalism to see which should be punished and which should not!? If we allow that to happen, are we not giving the law too much room for error!? Will justice prevail then?

Have to disagree. Fay did not commit criminal trespass and certainly not into a sensitive and restricted area. These guys brought along bolt cutters and went straight for the national transport system. Fay committed more incidents but it was purely nuisance and done against things he and his friends came along.

I am sure a reasonable person would have been able to tell the difference.
