3 molested drunk student
By Khushwant Singh
SHE knew one of them and left her friends to join the three men for drinks at Boat Quay sometime after midnight three years ago. When the pub closed, the 17-year-old student accompanied them to Dozo Restaurant at Valley Point Shopping Centre. The Japanese food outlet was closed but as its manager then, Eric Wong Meng Cheong, had the keys.
During the 20-day trial that ended in October, a district court heard that she got drunk there and Wong, 33, touched her private parts while Gregory Goh Boon Hong, 29, and Yue Waita, 30, put their hands under her clothes and touched her breast. On Thursday, Wong was sentenced to 15 months in jail and six strokes of the cane.
The other two were jailed for 10 months with three strokes of the cane. Goh's lawyer Edmond Pereira told reporters that all are appealing against conviction and sentence. Wong's lawyer is Mr Wee Pan Lee while Yue was unrepresented. The woman knew Goh as he was the assistant manager at a restaurant she visited. Yue was a management trainee there.
On Nov 24, 2007, she ran into Goh, Yue and Wong while clubbing. She joined them in a drinking game where the loser had to finish his or her glass. At Dozo, she grew increasingly unsteady and vomited. The men then molested her. The trio admitted being with her at Dozo but said that they merely carried her after she became too unsteady.
