3 loanshark runners arrested in separate cases
THREE men have been arrested in three separate cases for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
In the first case, an 18-year-old youth was placed under arrest on Wednesday morning.
The debtor-turned-runner was nabbed by the police along Ang Mo Kio Ave 4, and is believed to have helped the loansharks by ensuring debtors were harassed and collecting automated teller machine (ATM) cards from account holders who opened accounts for loansharking purposes.
The second suspect, the suspect arrested a 44-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon, along Ang Mo Kio Ave 9.
The police believe that the suspect is a debtor-turned-runner and assisted loansharks by collecting bank ATM cards from other account holders. Investigations are still ongoing.
The third suspect was checked by the police after he was seen behaving suspiciously along Hougang Ave 10 early Thursday morning.
ATM cards, bank transaction receipts and several handphones believed to contain debtors' records were found in the 27-year-old's possession.
Police also believe the suspect assisted the loansharks by carrying out bank transfers.
