Before we go into the outcomes, the question has to be asked - how did a 34 female sales trainer beat a surgeon with an extensive CV, scrutinised and passed by the rigorous and renown tea party process, a double first Cambridge Economist and Hedge Fund manager and an Australian trained Principal Engineer. We will delve into at a later date.

Outcome 1. The PAP entire operating model both as a party and a government requires a paradigm shift. Using state sources and tax payer funded government and semi- government organisations for party purposes is no longer tolerated. One cannot claim moral high ground on corruption and clean government whilst at the same time do the exact opposite when it comes to retain their seat.

Outcome 2. The door is now wide open for a third political party as WP alone cannot seize all the opportunities that the new dawn is offering. The PAP and WP and their respective brands of politics would not be able to cover the ideological needs of a nation. No other party other than this two have demonstrated the ability to reach out and engage the voters. SDP has been thoroughly discredited. There is no way this party can come back nor will it be able to retain its better qualified members. NSP has always had a question mark and is generally a part-time party that comes together after 5 years. Watch this space.

Outcome 3. 50 years of the yoke of fear and intimidation has been lifted. In a matter of months a number of law suits have been initiated by the PM, 2 cabinet ministers and one ex-PAP MP. One prominent blogger, civic activist and hugely respected Singaporean was threatened 3 times by 3 different cabinet ministers including the PM. The audacity of a first term and recently minted cabinet with less than 6 months on the job threatening lawsuits for legitimate questions for which the whole country is asking answers for was quite breathtaking. The climate of fear is no longer a solution for a party that is bankrupt of ideas. Either work with the people on equal terms or leave. In simple terms, please fuck off.

you want to delve into that ?

I already did

http://singsupplies.com/showthread....s-not-about-the-candidates-its-bout-the-party

or u have a monopoly of insight here?

bankrupt of ideas? I think you are the only 1 here that is bankrupt of ideas

long before Low declare openly his intention to assist the PAP, I was already explaining why he did that... even if I dont agree with it...

you on the other hand was hammering them for not standing up for Geylex Au and wondering why they are not
barking up on AIM

Outcome 2:
Agreed that there is room for more than PAP and WP. The BE results shows that the people are prepared to experiment with the Opposition provided that they are serious, credible and disciplined. I hope more well-qualified people come together and organised themselves to widen and enlarge the Opposition front. There is time enough till 2016.

Electoral accords to prevent splitting of votes only are possible if all parties negotiate from a position of strength, and not charity. Wards should not be wasted on weak no-chance parties just for the sake of unity. That's doing voters a disservice too. Opp parties can then carve out wards they are strong in and take on the PAP by continuing to adopt the BE effect.

Bro, getting some insights into what was unfolding. PAP did not expect such a swing. They thought it will be close but they are all looking for answers. They are planning to do a detailed survey of residents. They are not sure at all. Some are blaming it on Rivervale Plaza, some the candidate, some are clutching at straws including the BEEs. Fingers are even pointing at Teo Ser Luck and his V sign damaging photos with the PA bimbos.

Hey u r back. Where were u? At Hougang?

The 3rd party has to be SDP. I would like to remind you not too long ago as recent as 2001 election, WP managed to field only 2 candidates and had problems with nomination form leading to disqualification.

I am sure better qualified people will step forward and join the opposition. Daniel, Terence, Chen, Giam, etc are early movers. There will also be people who have gone to the university of life and are prepared to contribute. Its bodes well for the future.

Another good sign is that people will no longer tolerate parties and candidates who are not prepared to play ball. KJ with a double first probably got sympathy votes because of his father. I hope these people will learn from this.

scroobal forgotten what catherine lim has said.. the MIW cannot reinvent themselves. that's the problem.

if any paradigm shift is needed, it is the need to remove grc and go back to single constituency wards and restore the cpf.

Bro, they had 20 years under the same leadership. More than enough time. CSJ came from a position of strength - he inherited 3 seats. Lets face it, no tactics, no strategy, no political acumen, not even common sense. Their release of the press statements and their proposal showed a party that has a flawed character.

I am sure, if you tried enough, you would find a more capable individual.

Even if Chee is replaced, the name is damaged. Look at the CEC, Jufrie, Cheng, etc.

VW and few others are better off with another party.

The BE effect alone will probably result in a photofinish with WP still winning. But the contrasting personas between LLL and KPK definitely must be the tipper to the impressive swing. So if JJ or GG were fielded the margin prob wont be so big. Shows that LTK played his hands very well.

Precisely, it was just only 12 years ago. In political prospective, that is a very short period. WP also has its own set of problems and by no means in small magnitude. The injection of young and promising candidates introduced in GE06 only left Glenda Han remains.

See what Ravi Philemon revealed:

https://www.facebook.com/raviphilemon/posts/10151620333243277

I called a friend this morning from the Punggol East PAP grassroots, to hear his views about the results and he said that there was a lot of unhappiness within the PAP grassroots that the PAP had parachuted a non-Party member from another constituency, and were only going through the motion in showing their support for KPK. He knew friends from PAP grassroots in Punggol East who had told their families and friends that they were going to vote against the PAP this time. The People's Association volunteers too (according to my friend), were unhappy about how the PAP leadership hung out a PA director to dry in the Michael Palmer affair, and chose to display their unhappiness in the clearest way possible, by giving minimal support to PAP in this by-election.

Care to elaborate on this for the benefit of noobs like myself to this forum? tq

I already said this long ago

now that the campaign is over, I think we can safely said that Dr Koh is vastly overrated and totally out of his depth...

1) Politics is not like the civil servics, you cannot just parachute down a scholar and just expect everything to run smoothly... look at his walkabout, there is no chemistry between his glassloot entourage and him watsoever.. if he cant even win over his own side, how does he win over the residents..,,, i highly doubt he even try to socialise with his entourage

you need to be physically there to see how bad he interact with his glassloot entourage...

all of you keyboard warrior who spend all day kpkb online are like Eugene Tan relying on third party source

just like a scientist trying to create theory without doing experiment or using other people experiment results

Is CSJ a finished article? Sorry, I do not have the answer. Most likely he will contest in the next GE. If he lose, maybe he should quit for good. Jufrie and Cheng are old. They will have to quit the scene sooner or later.

VW and SDP are a match made in heaven. Only in SDP presented him with the opportunity to showcase his talent. Switching to another party is clearly not a solution. SDP may be a rotten boat but it has not sink. The boat is a big one. Whether VW can sail the boat to the other side of the riverbank depends on his skill and determination.
