MP Tan Chuan-Jin recently met a homeless family and tried to help them but was flatly rejected.

The Member of Parliament (MP) wrote about the incident on his Facebook page in a note on 12 January.

He had been alerted to a homeless mother and her two teenage daughters staying the night at the void deck of Blk 26 in Chai Chee.

The destitute family had walked 24km from Yishun to Chai Chee, and had stopped to stay the night at the void deck.

They had intended to walk 6km more the next day to Tampines to seek help from a relative.

The three were apparently homeless after the mother got a divorce.

The two daughters, 16 and 14, have already quit school.

Furthermore, the younger daughter is an underage mother who had given birth at 13 years old.

Seeing their plight, Mr Tan called the police for help but that resulted in the family hastily getting up and trying to leave.

They even tried to shake him off as Mr Tan observed that the mother may be trying to protect her daughter, an underage mother.

In the end, Mr Tan and his group walked several hundred metres with the family as they tried to persuade the family to stay put.

At that point, Mr Tan felt that "it would have been a funny scene if it was not so tragic".

The police eventually arrived and took over the matter by driving the family directly to Tampines.

From there, Mr Tan heard that the family managed to find a cousin who took them in.

PR coup for BG Tan? It's a direct fight now between him and kee chiu for the seat warmer title.

From there, Mr Tan heard that the family managed to find a cousin who took them in.

That will be the beginning of another story to be re-told.

Stay tune.

A bunch of losers who should be sterilized.

The mom is a divorcee. An unforeseen circumstance. With 2 daughters and a grandchild, it is not easy for girls to adjust. The girls should get jobs and try to get a rental unit from HDB. This is a common thing in the west whereby a single mom raising kids by herself, but in the west there is genuine help.

Whatever happened to "Guess what race?"

Immediate help should be provided to the family, but long term counseling needs to be part of the package as well to help them break out of this vicious cycle.

Hmmm i would go with malay. I wonder if i am correct but then again which malay will have the strength to walk so far and even refuse help as they often try to cheat on their fellow neightbours, colleagues, friends etc, i suppose it's to protect the daughter who's a mother at 13.

1st world sillipore with highest paid ministers in the world indeed.
It is in fact tragic when you see all the Pinoys and Indian FT's with fake qualifications working in GLC's and staying in condo's in sillipore.
The problem with this family (and silliporeans in general) could be that they are too straight and do not know how to cheat, lie or poison your food like these foreign trash we import here by the millions.
It will also be funny when the men in the family are called up to serve NS and defend the very foreign trash that cheat to steal their jobs.
Its even more ironical that its a former SAF General C-J Tan who joined the party that open doors to the invasion of foreigners.
