236 arrested in anti-crime blitz
SINGAPORE: Police have arrested 236 people in a series of operations from 27 August to 1 September 2013.
The joint operation, led by Central Police Division, was supported by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Traffic Police, Special Operations Command, Central Narcotics Bureau and Singapore Civil Defence Force.
In a statement, police said the officers raided illegal massage parlours at Jalan Besar, and conducted enforcement checks at public entertainment outlets at Marina Bay, South Bridge Road, Beach Road and Little India.
Road blocks were also set up to detect drink driving.
The arrested comprised 189 women and 47 men between the ages of 17 and 63.
Illegal employment was the main offence, accounting for 180 of the arrests.
Unlawful assembly came as a distant second, accounting for 23 arrests.
Four people were arrested for drink driving, and 29 for other criminal offences.
The officers found 10 outlets had violated public entertainment licensing conditions.
Police said investigations against the arrested are ongoing. - CNA/xq
