Several packs of compressed marijuana with a total weight of 230 kilogrammes and 23 logs of protected wild rosewood were seized by the Mekong River Navy Peacekeeping Force on Wednesday night, force commander Rear Admiral Soracha Sornprathum said on Thursday.
The authorities found the smuggled marijuana at Ban Kup Puang in Nakhon Phanom’s That Phanom district.
Nine protected rosewood logs were discovered in Mukdahan’s Muang district and another 14 logs in That Phanom district of Nakhon Phanom province, he said.
They also found and seized 978 methamphetamine pills hidden inside a house in Nakhon Phanom's Ban Paeng district, Rear Adm Soracha said.
No suspects were arrested. They probably heard about the raids in advance and fled, he said.
Rear Adm Soracha said the culprits tried to take advantage of the Songkran festival to traffic the methamphetamine pills and prohibited timber, expecting there would be less chance of being caught.
