AsiaOne Wednesday, Jun 03, 2015

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On May 21, police received a report of loanshark harassment at Blk 8 Jalan Kukoh.

The unit was splashed with paint. Loanshark-related graffiti was also found around the area.

Police officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Canberra Road on Jun 2 at about 9pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in several cases of loanshark harassment by splashing paint at debtors' houses and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti at various locations in Singapore.

Two mobile phones and a red marker pen believed to be used in the commission of the offences were seized as case exhibits.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment face a jail term of up to five years and may be fined between $5,000 and $50,000.

They also face up to six strokes of the cane.
