Yesterday evening, two SBS buses collided along Sims Avenue causing 23 people to be injured and sent to the hospital.

The incident occurred at the junction of Sims Avenue and Sims way when one of the buses rear-ended the other at the slip road.

One bus was a single decker bus while the other was a double decker bus. There were no fatalities but the collision was serious enough to smash the windscreen of the single decker bus and dislodge it's route number.

23 passengers onboard the bus were brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital with cuts and abrasions. Neither one of the drivers were injured.

Issuing a statement about the incident yesterday evening, SBS Transit said that “Our priority has been the wellbeing of passengers who were injured on the two buses. We have sent our officers to the hospital to extend care and concern and render assistance the best we can. Unfortunately we have only been allowed into the discharge area and are still waiting to see the passengers.”

They also said that they extended their deepest apologies to all affected passengers.
SBS explained that they are investigating the incident.

Tan Tam Mei | The New Paper | Monday, Feb 17, 2014
SINGAPORE - He heard vehicles behind him honking before he saw an SBS Transit bus barrelling towards him, against the flow of traffic.
Fortunately, he swerved to the left in the nick of time, narrowly avoiding a collision with the oncoming bus Thursday.
The motorcyclist, who wanted to be known only as Mr Amir, said: "If I had reacted one or two seconds later, I might not be here already."
The runaway bus was originally travelling along Hougang Avenue 3 towards Lorong Ah Soo when it failed to stop at the red light junction at Bartley Road East.
It hit the back of a car and two motorcycles, before driving straight into oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road. The incident took place at around 4.30pm Thursday.
Mr Amir, 31, a clerk at a law firm, was on his way home along Hougang Avenue 3 when he came face-to-face with the runaway bus, which he estimates was travelling at about 70kmh.
"One of my first thoughts was: 'Am I on the wrong side of the road?' I turned back after stopping, but the bus was still going," he said.
He managed to swerve out of the way and stay on his bike as the bus continued past him, before coming to a stop when it hit a road divider.

SBS Transit has said yesterday, Jan 28, that it will take strict disciplinary action against the bus driver who knocked down an old lady when she was crossing the road.
A video circulated on Facebook shows an old woman crossing the road slowly at Upper Serangoon Road on the morning of Jan 20.
The lights had just turned green for vehicles to move off as she was nearing the other side of the traffic light junction, but a double-decker bus did not stop and hit her, causing her to stumble and fall. She seemed to be fine as she got on her feet and continued walking.
The bus, service 153, was headed towards Hougang Central at that time.
According to The Straits Times, SBS' senior vice president of corporate communications, Tammy Tan, said that the bus driver's poor errors of judgement will not be tolerated and they will take disciplinary action.
She said, "Our bus captain committed a series of mistakes -- none of which we condone."
Tan added that the driver besides failing to adhere to traffic safety rules, he also did not take down the old lady's particulars after she declined medical assistance.
The lack of contact details resulted in SBS being unable to check on the old lady's well-being.
They hope that she would contact them so as to offer her any assistance she needs.

Don't know it's whose fault. But lot of passenger fell down, some are elderly people. Than after that the bus driver and the driver with the look of a arrogant face of the car exchange information and taking picture of the bus and the car. Spend around 20 mins doing all this. More such accidents will happen in the near future when the population exceeds 6.9 million
Come 2056 , the Pappies will still be in power
Why ?
Because the 60.14% will continue to brainwash their offsprings and their offsprings will brainwash their offsprings .....

These sorts of accidents have nothing to do with the PAP.

They occur all over the world on a regular basis. The idea that the accident rate will go down if the PAP is voted out is so ludicrous it beggars belief.

A woman hit by a bus in central Wellington this afternoon was thrown several metres in the air, a witness says.

The woman was crossing Manners St, near the bottom of Cuba Mall, when she was struck by the Go Wellington bus about 2.30pm.

A witness, who did not want to be identified, told APNZ the collision made a "huge bang''.

"She came round the corner from Cuba Mall and I was about two metres behind her.

"She wasn't crossing at the pedestrian crossing, she was just walking onto the road.''

It did not look like she checked for traffic before stepping onto the road, he said.

"There was a huge bang. She flew about three metres through the air and then landed in the gutter.

"I think it was just one of those things where she just wasn't expecting a bus to be coming along,'' the witness said.

The impact knocked her out for about two minutes, and then she started "howling'', he said. "She was conscious, she started to struggle and things like that.
"There was a lot of blood.''

A doctor who was nearby stayed with her until ambulance staff arrived.

The woman appeared to be aged in her 30s or 40s. She was not wearing earphones at the time of the incident, he said.

Ambulance central communications team leader Marie Willis said the woman was transported to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition.

Police have closed one lane of Manners St while they investigate the incident. The Go Wellington bus involved was still at the scene.

NZ Bus said it was was notified of the incident immediately through the driver contacting the central communication control team.

"Regional Operations Manager Richard Graham was on Manners St within minutes to help police and ambulance staff, the serious crash unit investigation and to support the Go Wellington bus operator,'' a spokeswoman said.

"In circumstances such as this, the driver is naturally very upset and will be checked over for any signs of medical injury or stress.

"The driver is not expected to work for the rest of their scheduled shift and will be off work for the foreseeable future.''

The driver would also receive counselling as well as support from family and colleagues, and would be monitored on their return to work.

Wellington bus driver sacked after 10 crashes

A Wellington bus driver who crashed his bus 10 times in 18 months has failed to keep his job after his last accident involved him hitting a skip bin.A decision by the Employment Relations Authority has ruled bus company Go Wellington was justified in sacking Ray Cutter in February last year, saying Mr Cutter's right to job security had to give way to passengers and road users' rights to safety.

The final straw was when he crashed into a skip, tearing a hole in the bus and showering passengers in glass, the month before.

Mr Cutter had blamed problems with the bus's brakes but investigations ruled that out.

However, Mr Cutter's union advocates argued that his final warning should have lapsed as it was made more than six months before the crash.

But the ERA said that did not apply as his final warning was not for a definite time period, and it was impractical as it meant a driver could have a crash every six months and never be dismissed.

Mr Cutter was first employed in 2009 and had six crashes in his first six months, which led to the company giving him extra training. But a month later he hit a parked truck and then was involved in a T-bone collision with a car, which led to his final warning.

After his final warning he scraped a courier van before his driving was assessed.

His driving assessors said his defensive driving was good "apart from the specific recurring theme". He sometimes used his mirrors too late and need to react more quickly.

Before AssBAss replace SG bus drivers with FTrash and population explosion caused by the FAP Traitor PeeM selling out SGs, how often do we read of such terrible accidents? Were the buses overcrowded during the time of the accident?
i think not all can be contributed to cheaperest foreign drivers laah.

another factor is the mass importation of cheaperest of foreigner itself, overloading the traffic system, public transport system, traffic light system, zero crossing system, overhead bridge system, etc, etc, etc, etc

Would also be interesting to know how many of these 23 are foreigners. It may turn out that no Sporeans were involved at all as drivers & the injured were all foreigners.

It is a known fact that Asians are poor drivers so the nationality of the bus driver won't be a factor.

If the SBS wants to reduce the number of accidents, they should hire Ang Moh drivers.
