Base on calculation is salary deduction.
By right extra 4.4 day/month calculated base on OT 1.5time should get at least $400~$600 for extra 4.4day.
Sinkie driver just keep quite do not dare to protest.

I remembered back then when I first joined the industry, there were still many local Indians, Malay, Chinese working as Marine welders, mechanics, and riggers.. Some of the idiotic comments here contain some half-truths. Indeed one can forget about fairness or rights when it comes to pay.
It is all based on "need". If your employer needs you more than you need the job, then you have the bargaining power. The only right thing to do is to make them critically dependant upon you and you can demand a pay raise. At the same time don't forget to go around telling your colleagues hypocritically "Nahhh... no one is indispensable".

The bus companies already knew that the FT drivers don't know English and its not the PRC fault not to know English because its not their mother tongue. If the FT know English, they wouldn't need to fly all the way here to become a driver. So why didn't the bus companies train them up first knowing very well that they need to know English in their job?

We are one of the most expensive cities in the world and our salaries are also one of the lowest. There is no minimum wage laws or unions to protect the workers' rights. We need these FTs to do the work that Singaporeans don't want to do and yet we are exploiting them. And why are we importing hordes of useless FT PMETS that does absolutely nothing to improve our economy or productivity? You mean Singaporeans don't want PMET jobs?

FTs don't want to stay and locals want to leave. This country is doomed if we continue in this way.

The road signs are in english, and most of their passengers are english speaking etc. Who wants to bet that during the recruitment process, bus drivers with english ability were preferred or hired. The lying sons of bitches probably put on their CV that they could speak english, went they couldn't. Fake resumes among PRC very common. Slip a few bucks to the recruiter during the interview and bob's your uncle, they are hired.

Regarding the difference in wages. Singaporeans do want this kind of work. In fact, at one time, all bus drivers were singaporeans. But now, a singaporean has very high fixed cost. U already say that singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Not only does a sinkie have to pay high mortgages for flat he does not own, his kids have to go to school here, he has to buy clothes for them, tutor for them, food, etc. He needs a minimum of $2400 too survive. A PRC bus driver will rent a 4 bedroom flat with 10 other drivers. His family is back in China. His fixed cost is china cost of living which is a fraction of what it is here. If a PRC driver gets paid $1700 a month, he can comfortably send $1000 back to his family every month. They can have a good living on SGD$1000 a month. That would be much more than he can earn in China.

For u not to understand this simple math is pathetic. Don't ever come here again and say that we are exploiting FTs. By saying this, u are just a fucking piece of shit traitor.

There's also the knowledge and quiet confidence of knowing that you'll easily get another job with equal or better pay, so the employer had better not be a punk, or you'll just walk away.

Being younger, single (no debts and no extra mouths to feed) and more mobile skews the bargaining/threat advantage to your side.

Showing too much competence at work (If I make myself indispensable they won't fire me!) may backfire. You may be called upon to do more shit, even tasks that are beyond your natural job scope. Consequence: grin and bear with it, resentment, burnout, held hostage.

Working is just like prostitution. Do a professional job, get paid, but you don't have to show loyalty, go the extra mile for free or get emotionally involved with the job. You are never defined by your job. You are a mercenary, so behave like a mercenary.
