Stupid fool, there are more of these so called foreign bus captains where they come from. Do they really think they are indispensable? These people are a dime a dozen.

Influx of foreingers? Wait till you see them holding Singapore in ransom. This is only a tip of an iceberg. I have friends working in a cab company and already some foreigners are going on an internal riff with their boss. Good ridden!! I would say the employers who treated Singaporeans 2nd class finally have their days!

This has nothing to do with being FT or local. Its about exploitation (for both locals and FTs) by the bus companies and the absence of a minimum wage law. Any normal person would have walk out of this situation whether he's a local or FT.

Locals don't want to drive buses because the pay is low and the hours are long. So we need to employ FT drivers right? But why are we paying them wages that are even lower than those of locals? Are the FTs doing less work or their productivity is lower? If yes, then why are they employed in the first place? Because the bus companies were desperate or because they were cheap and its an easy way to increase the companies revenues?

And now they are increasing the local drivers' pay but not that of the FTs. Where's the logic?

The bus companies already knew that the FT drivers don't know English and its not the PRC fault not to know English because its not their mother tongue. If the FT know English, they wouldn't need to fly all the way here to become a driver. So why didn't the bus companies train them up first knowing very well that they need to know English in their job?

We are one of the most expensive cities in the world and our salaries are also one of the lowest. There is no minimum wage laws or unions to protect the workers' rights. We need these FTs to do the work that Singaporeans don't want to do and yet we are exploiting them. And why are we importing hordes of useless FT PMETS that does absolutely nothing to improve our economy or productivity? You mean Singaporeans don't want PMET jobs?

FTs don't want to stay and locals want to leave. This country is doomed if we continue in this way.

When Singaporeans are charged with local jurisdiction for a mass protest like this, foreigners can go home after doing so without a scratch. Who knows, our govt might just kowtow them to stay and work things out....hahaha

Imagine the FTs of various nationalities given free scholarships.............where will they be placed if they choose to stay in sinkieland after graduation. It also added another dimension to discrimations in our social fabric.........not only will we have to deal with sensitive race issues which was on the road to greater harmony, but also that of nationalities - country of origin among these new shitizens who needs integration programes because they are here for the wrong reasons - thank the spread-legs emigration policies. Picture a pinoy and prc new citizen living together given the present tension btw their countries.

All these FT bus drivers; if they get citizenships, I bet........they will resign and drive cabs. More competition for displaced and jobless sinkie PMETs seeking to be cabbies.

"Workers rights" is a Western concept that has no place in Singapore. Why should we have to ape the West when it comes to industrial relations?

We should simply stick to the tried and tested Eastern philosophy of squeezing as much as possible out of each and every worker for as little reward as possible. It has served China well for thousands years and has resulted in spectacular creations such as the Great Wall.. the only man made object that can be seen from space.

If workers had rights in ancient China, most of the splendor of Chinese culture that we are so proud of today would never have got off the ground.

Orientals are difficult to control in an activity where they are able to congregate in large numbers such as shipyards, construction sites etc. That is why you do not see mass recruitment and deployment of PRC, Koreans and even Thais which you see in places like in African countris, Pakistan etc. Indians and Bangladeshis are considered docile and not enterprising enough to ceate trouble as a group.

PRC are therefore recruited to drive buses, work in coffeeshops, small businesses.

There is more to this than meets the eye. It no fluke that vocational profiles of foreigners follow a certain stereotype. Even for maids, there are clear policies. Maids from China were only allowed for high ranking politicans and Captains of industry.

Agree with you bro Scroobal.. This is similiar to the shipyard industry in Spore where there are many Indian and Bangladeshi workers.. I remembered back then when I first joined the industry, there were still many local Indians, Malay, Chinese working as Marine welders, mechanics, and riggers.. Now these marine trades are dominated by the India Indians, Pinoys and the Banglas..

... According to insider, local bus captains got pay rise of $225. FT bus captain increase between 70-150. Plus FT bus captains are also not familar with road, so they face higher stress than local bus captain. Seeing a lower pay rise, this cause them to want to leave.
