POLICE have arrested 22 people for loansharking activities.

The 16 men and six women, aged between 19 and 55, were nabbed during an islandwide operation.

Simultaneous raids started on Monday and ended on Tuesday at various locations including Ang Mo Kio, Clementi, Toa Payoh and Yishun.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have facilitated the unlicensed moneylending activities by allowing their bank accounts to be used for the collection of loanshark debts.

Investigations against the suspects are ongoing.
