SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of Outrage of Modesty committed on board a bus.

On Jan 15, 2014, at about 6.30pm, a 13-year-old female lodged a police report informing that she was molested by a man on board a bus along Upper Bukit Timah Road. Upon receiving the information, officers from Jurong Police Division commenced investigations and eventually managed to establish the identity of the suspect.

The man was subsequently arrested at Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 on Feb 26, 2014.

If found guilty, the man may face a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or caning, or with any combination of such punishments.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim, commended his officers for their excellent investigations which led to the arrest of the subject. Those who encounter such situations should not remain silent but expose the culprits at the earliest opportunity to ensure that the culprit is caught. They should shout for help immediately, seek help from people nearby, approach the station manager or bus captain for assistance, and call '999' as soon as possible.
