2010 hokkien idol competition.

Fujian is diverse in that people in Min Nan are having a sub culture that is different from people living in the northern parts of Fujian like Fuzhou, Fuqing and Putien. A person from Xiamen will have to converse in Mandarin when talking to a native from Fuzhou. Each have their respective dialects, cuisines, folk songs and operas. So the so called Hokkien songs are popular only in the southern regions of Fujian as well as in Taiwan.

Stranglely, only in Guangdong and Fujian do we find songs sung in their respective dialects. Shanghai, for example, do not have Shanghainese songs. Somemore in Shanghai, they do not use Shanghainese in their movies, news or drama serials. You can catch some Shanghainese (not all) only in their sitcom.
