20 years' jail for rape

GUILTY: Pizza delivery man also gets 10 strokes of rotan for raping 5-year-old
PETALING JAYA: A PIZZA delivery man who raped his ex-girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter was sentenced by the Sessions Court here yesterday to 20 years' jail and 10 strokes of the rotan.
Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz said the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case and its defence was a mere denial.
Hamdan Ahadluddin, 52, was charged with raping the girl in a house in Taman Putra Damai in Lembah Klang, Subang, here in May last year.
In mitigation, counsel P.G. Cyril said his client had a wife and two children to support.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Aishah Ahmad Zakiuddin told the court that the accused was previously charged with a similar offence in 2005 and was convicted, but he had not learnt a lesson.
She said the victim was only 5 and the accused should have protected her instead of raping her.
Hayatul ordered the jail sentenced to begin from the date of arrest, which was July 2 last year.
Counsel Farhan Read appeared with Cyril.
Seven prosecution witnesses and two defence witnesses testified at the trial.
