SINGAPORE: 20 people were each fined between $500 and $4,000 for operating unlicensed massage parlours islandwide. The 12 men and eight women are between 32 and 64 years old. Some were repeat offenders.
A few of them operated the parlours in partnerships, while others ran their activities alone. One of them, 58-year-old Mohd Yusoff Abdullah, also known as Soh Peng Lam, received the highest fine of $4,000 for operating four outlets without a licence.
They include Ocean Health Centre in Katong Shopping Centre and Xiu Li Beauty and Health Centre in Bedok North. The outlets offered body massage at $30. One of the youngest operators was 32-year old Lim Say Yong.
He was fined $500 for running an unlicensed massage outlet known as Yang Sheng Ge in Geylang Road. Between March 15 and 29, police raided areas like Bedok, Tampines and Marine Parade. They arrested 60 female Chinese nationals, who they suspected were involved in vice.
