天文专家表示，总的说来，２０１２年的这次日全食虽然陆地见食面积小，但全食持续时间较长，如果有充裕的时间和金钱的话，到澳大利亚连观测带旅游也是个不错的选择。当然，对于绝大部分公众而言，无缘亲临现场观测，但可以通过互联网和电视等媒介收看此次日食盛况。
２０１２年５月２１日的这次日环食天象，持续时间大约４分钟，是２０２０年之前我国观测日环食的最后机会。虽然壮观程度不及日全食，但“金环日食”同样令人震撼。
根据预报，本次日环食，在我国境内的环食带经过广西、广东、香港、澳门、江西、福建以及浙江等部分地区，同时还将扫过台湾北部一角。凡环食带经过的地方，当地公众都能看到日环食。但遗憾的是，５月中下旬，我国南方大部分地区正值梅雨季节，晴天率较小，因此本次日环食很可能会受到阴雨天气的影响。尽管环食带内天气情况不太乐观，但我国除极西南部地区以外，都能看到不同程度的日偏食。
据了解，错过了这次，下一次再发生在我国可见的日环食就要等到２０２０年６月２１日了。
