Brilliant does not have to mean academic brilliance. They are brilliant human beings, a concept I guess you can never understand.

Give an alternative definition of a "brilliant" human being. You can't because there is only one definition. Brilliance defines someone with an outstanding talent in one of more fields. It means they are far better than everyone else.

I would very much like to see this mother fucker walk on the side with the approaching train.

Heavens no. We should accord status for all high-ranking officers of civil serpents and military.

All important people ALWAYS walk in the centre. Only lowly PLps walk on the side. This was also been highlighted during Shakespeare's time.

Let this *ahem* walk in the centre.....when the trains are doing 60km/her in auto mode........with faulty brakes.

If sinkies were not such complain kings this accident would never have happened. It is the mother fuckers sitting in airconditioned comfort inside the train that are the cause of it all.

If they were just a bit more patient SMRT wouldn't be pressured into sending maintenance crews out while the trains are still operating. They could simply shut the line down for the rest of the day so that the crew can operate in safety and without the pressure of having to get things up and running within unrealistic timeframes.

Khaw’s ‘insensitive’ post in the aftermath of SMRT deaths draws flak

Transport minister Khaw Boon Wan has been drawing flak for conflating the tragedy of the loss of two young SMRT staff who died in a track accident and a milestone for the Downtown Line (DTL) in a Facebook post.

About 200 people have criticised the post since it was published on Tuesday night. Some of them claimed that their negative comments were deleted by the minister’s page administrator.

Nasrulhudin Najumudin, 26, and Muhammad Asyraf Ahmad Buhari, 24, were killed near Pasir Ris MRT station earlier that day when they went down on the tracks to conduct maintenance checks.

Khaw began his post by saying, “Yesterday, Downtown Line (DTL) crossed an important milestone: 150 days without any major service disruption… This is the challenge of running a disruption-free rail service, not just here in Singapore, but also in other cities like Hong Kong or Taipei or London. Hence crossing each 100-day, 150-day and 200-day milestone is a timely opportunity to encourage them on towards the next milestone.”

He then said, “Sadly, news came that two SMRT colleagues were killed by a moving train while attending to a problem near Pasir Ris MRT station… our hearts are with the families and will do our best to support and assist them.”

He ended off the post saying that while he was at the DTL Depot to celebrate the milestone, his heart and those of his team who attended the event were “heavy”.

The majority of those who reacted to the post clicked the “angry” Facebook emoticon. Many commenters have criticised Khaw for being “insensitive”.

An Alvin Lim said, “Sir, I really don’t think you should be celebrating your achievements when two staff had just died. It’s rather insensitive.”

A Yong Jie Thng said, “No deaths should be downplayed by phasing it below another ‘beautified’ post. At least have the heart to dedicate one full post for the deceased.”

A Joee Goh said, “This post is highly inappropriate. Your priorities.. I can only say I am saddened by the fact that your milestones are way more important than our fellow singaporeans’ lives. Ask if any Singaporeans would regard your 100 days milestones more important than a life - be him or her a singaporean, a foreigner or even a tourist. You should remove this post Sir.”

Some of those who responded to Khaw’s post complained about having their comments deleted.

An Adam Ali said, “He sure got his priorities mixed up… self congratulatory first then say about death of the staff … add self censorship too by deleting unfavourable comments.”

A Patrick Tan said, “For over an hour many users’ comments have been deleted including 2 of my comments after 6.06pm but before 7.10pm yesterday!”

SMRT admits that the deaths of their two young staffers were due to a safety lapse

Posted 24 Mar 2016

With the two SMRT employees who lost their lives in the line of duty laid to rest side by side yesterday at Choa Chu Kang Muslim cemetery, the tide of anguish against the public transport operators are rising.

This is especially so after a press release yesterday evening, where SMRT admitted that there were safety lapses that occured and lead to the deaths of 26-year-old Nasrulhudin Najumudin and 24-year-old Muhammad Asyraf Ahmad Buhari on Tuesday.

The two trainees were hit and killed by an oncoming train on the tracks near Pasir Ris MRT station when during an investigation into a triggered monitoring device. From their findings, SMRT revealed that no coordination was done to ensure that the trains came to a stop when maintenance staff were crossing the tracks.

The official timeline of events is as follows:

BBqQVSN.img

8.08am: A signalling condition monitoring device along the tracks near Pasir Ris MRT stations pinged a warning.

10.54am: Authorisation granted for a team to move down from the station platform, cross the track and access the maintenance walkway to reach the device. A 15-man team (including the two deceased) went down in a single file toward the device. Standard protocol requires the team to coordinate with the signal unit at the station for oncoming trains to be brought to a stop before they step back on the trackway. This did not happen.

11:08am: A train — travelling at 60kmh — had been moving in automatic mode and was due to berth at Pasir Ris MRT station. Train driver sees staff on track and applies emergency brakes — but proved to be too late. One staff member managed to escape in time, but unfortunately Nasrulhudin and Muhammad Asyraf were hit and killed.

"We take responsibility and apologise for the tragic accident," SMRT wrote in their media release. "We express our deepest condolences to the families of Nasrulhudin and Muhammad Asyraf in their time of grief."

Words however seemed to be ineffectual to some of the victims' relatives.

"What we resent are your attempts to clear yourselves of any fault, insisting that you have observed all the standard operating procedures," wrote a relative in an open letter to SMRT.

"If you did everything right, then your standard operating procedures must be flimsy."

On their end, the transport operator stated that they've already established a team to evaluate all workplace safety procedures as well as mandatory work-team level safety reviews.

"We are continuing to support the Police and the Ministry of Manpower in their ongoing investigations," they noted.

Accidents happen and many are unavoidable.

More than 120 souls were lost in the building of the Hoover dam. However the sacrifice was well worth it.

Same applies to the SMRT system. The benefits that it brings to the lives of ordinary singaporeans far outweighs the downsides.

$8Cow might as well say these two mats caused the next milestone to be broken and they need to be punished. What the fuck is happening to PAP?

not much sacrifices for bangkok's mrt and bts lines.. they are even getting better as we speak.

It about the strength and competence of the management.

Hong Kong is just another chinese city. Singapore one whole country how to compare?

Of course can compare. In fact we r a city state and we have our own treasury and dont need to ask permission from anyone so in many ways we r more fortunate

Kermit the Frog reports on behalf of Muppet News:

Sinkie MiniSTAR $8 Cow began his post by talking cock. He purports to celebrate a "milestone" of only 150 days with major interruption of the new Down Town Line when a major incident occurred at the well established East West Line.

Sinkies are not told for example that the West Rail Line in Hong Kong opened in December 2003 and has been in operation since then WITHOUT a single fatal incident. The only major incident of note is:

"At 9:15am on 14 February 2007, a passenger train broke down when one of the voltage transformers mounted on the train (EMU SP1900) roof exploded. It was suspected that the overheated transformer caused its insulating oil to vaporise, thus causing the explosion. The train-borne circuit breaker, which was connected in parallel to the voltage transformer to the train pantograph, was not designed to isolate this kind of fault.

After the incident, all SP1900 EMUs had their voltage transformers replaced. The new voltage transformers are German-made dry type transformers, which will not catch fire even if they fail.

This incident occurred in the southbound direction in the tunnel between Kam Sheung Road and Tsuen Wan West, about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) north of Tsuen Wan West. Around 650 passengers had to evacuate through the dark tunnel to the station, while around 340 people returned to the ground through a ventilation shaft at Chai Wan Kok. Eleven people were sent to hospital. Train services returned to normal after 4 hours.[34]

As an apology, the West Rail was opened for free rides on 21 February 2007, the first working day after the Chinese New Year holiday.[35]"

excerpt from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Rail_Line

Elmo the hairy train expert said: The above comparison shows that there is something very wrong with the mindset of the SMRT senior management and the MiniSTAR in charge and that is the cause of the sub-par standards of Sinkieland mass rapid transit when compared with those of similar Asian cities whose senior personnel are paid much less but subject to more scrutiny and accountability in a more democratic political system with civic minded citizens who dare to speak up!

Sadly, it is not known when the 70% daft Sinkies will wake up!

Totototototo ....... end of news ...........
