2 maids jailed for stealing
By Elena Chong
<!-- story content : start -->
TWO Filipino maids who stole from their employers were each jailed for six months on Thursday. Mary Joy Autor Quimay, 33, who pleaded guilty, was alone at her employer's home at Lorong Kismis in Jurong when she stole more than $20,000 worth of jewellery from her employer, Madam Maria Pilar Jimenez Enriquez, between Oct 1 and Nov 9. The court heard that after stealing each time, she would pawn the items at Toh Yi Drive before heading to Lucky Plaza to remit the money back home. In another case, the employer of Valendy Jabon Lombres, 26, Madam Leong Pui Mun, 54, found some pawn tickets in her maid's name and confronted her on Nov 17. Valendy initially kept quiet and cried when asked where she got the jewellery from. Subsequently she confessed that she had stolen the jewellery from Madam Leong's bedroom. She also pawned the jewellery and sent the money back to the Philippines. She had stolen money, a Rolex watch and assorted jewellery totalling about $6,000. Both could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined on each charge.
