SINGAPORE - Three youths were riding their electric bicycles late Thursday (Oct 27) night when a trailer hit them from behind.
Two of the young men died and another was injured in the road accident, which happened close to midnight at the junction of Pandan Crescent along West Coast Highway.
The trio, who were apparently from the same lion dance troupe and good friends, intended to ride from Jurong to Telok Blangah when the accident took place.
Mr Ang Yee Fong, 25, was pronounced dead on the scene. Mr Ong Zi Quan, 18, who was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH), later died of his injuries.
Mr Marcus Loke, 17, was taken to NUH with leg injuries. He is currently in the general ward at the hospital, and is in stable condition.
The Straits Times understands that Mr Loke was riding in front, Mr Ong was in the middle and Mr Ang rode at the back.
They are believed to have been riding in a single file to one side of the road.
The 34-year-old driver of the trailer was arrested for causing death by negligence, according to the police. Investigations are ongoing.
Mr Ong was cremated on Friday (Oct 28) afternoon, while Mr Ang will be cremated on Saturday (Oct 29).
Mr Ong's sister told The Straits Times that her brother, who graduated from the Institute of Technical Education earlier this year, was to be enlisted for national service next Monday (Oct 31). The 20-year-old, who declined to give her name, said: "I can't believe this has happened. We are still in shock."
They look well educated and come from elite family
