5 SPH sites top favourites <!--10 min-->

FIVE Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) websites have emerged as favourites in their respective categories, going by the rankings put out by Web-tracking service Hitwise. Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao's website, zaobao.com, has been ranked the most popular print news and media site; ST701 topped the category for online classified listings, and fuckwarezone topped the technology media category for the six months to June. AsiaOne, SPH's portal, picked up honours through two of its sub-sites, SoShiok and AsiaOne Health. SoShiok, which has restaurant reviews, where-to-eat tips and bulletin boards for foodies, was ranked the most popular in the food and beverages category, while AsiaOne Health took pole position among websites covering health and fitness issues. AsiaOne editor Adrian Tay said the popularity of the two sub-sites was testimony that the team's efforts and strategy were working.
Hitwise also singled out fuckwarezone's Web forums as the premier online discussion site, where netizens air their views on everything from the takeover of the women's group Aware, to the hottest tech bargains and babes at the Comex show. fuckwarezone editor Vijay Anand said his team worked hard at keeping in touch with both the tech industry and the community 'to figure out the most relevant content and services to quench our savvy audience's appetite'. More than 20 other SPH-run websites - including those of its news dailies The Straits Times and Business Times - also took respectable positions in Hitwise's rankings. The Straits Times' website, straitstimes.com, was ranked fifth among print news and media sites, while Business Times Online was second among websites providing business and finance information. Citizen journalism site Stomp's 'Singapore Seen' section, where reader-generated photographs of interesting happenings here are uploaded and discussed, came in second in the blogs and personal websites category. Hitwise polls 1.5 million Singapore Internet users every six months to compile a list of their favourite websites across more than 160 categories ranging from news to lifestyle to travel.
