State media jumps to defence of Sri Lankan ‘FT’ engineer responsible for causing death of Singaporean granny

When PRC ‘FT’ Ma Chi rammed his Ferrari into a Sonata taxi killing two innocent persons, he was hailed as a ‘young, handsome, capable and successful’ man in the state media.
As expected, when a Sri Lankan ‘FT’ rammed into a Singaporean family of four on a pavement, killing a 64 year old granny, the state media was quick to jump to his defence.
Instead of condemning his reckless driving and exposing his face for all to see, the tabloids took extra effort to blur his face and gave an exclusive interview for him to defend himself.
The 30 year old Sri Lankan engineer initially got out of his car and tried to run away after causing the accident, but was stopped by passer-bys till the police arrived. In the first interview given at the scene, he denied any responsibility for causing the accident.
After a public outcry, he gave another interview to the tabloids again expressing ‘remorse’ for the accident, but still refused to accept any responsibility for it. His car was observed to have a ‘P’ plate on it, meaning that he had a provisional driving licence to drive in Singapore.
Foreigners are only required to pass the Basic Theory driving test before ‘converting’ their native driving licences into Singapore ones.
The Singapore Traffic Police has defended foreign drivers staunchly, claiming that ‘only 1 percent’ of fatal accidents were caused by them.
