LAUNDRY-SHOP worker Chen Hwee Wan was spotted jaywalking at Ang Mo Kio in the rain on Friday afternoon, blithely disregarding the cars and buses whizzing past her.
The 63-year-old declared there was little chance she would be knocked down by a vehicle because she was careful.
'You must be confident before you can cross,' she said in Mandarin.
Her blase attitude was echoed by 68-year-old Tan King Yong, a retired bus captain who now coaches new captains.
'It is convenient and it is not dangerous as long as you are careful,' he said in Mandarin after illegally crossing the same road.
Jaywalking is a way of life for most people, but when it comes to senior citizens, especially, it can have deadly results.
