SINGAPORE — Thirteen people are under investigation for allegedly breaching Covid-19 safe distancing measures in an office unit in Ubi, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Monday (May 3).

They were said to be consuming alcohol and socialising when police raided the unit along Ubi Road 2 on May 1.

“Public entertainment and liquor were believed to be provided at the venue without valid licenses,” SPF said in a news release.

“Karaoke equipment found at the unit was also seized as a case exhibit.”

The 13 people under investigation are aged between 21 and 33.

In addition, a 31-year-old man, believed to be the operator of the unit, will also be investigated for offences under the Public Entertainments Act and Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015, said the police.

Under Singapore's Covid-19 rules, social gatherings are limited to a maximum of eight people in a group.

Members of the public are reminded to take safe distancing measures seriously, said SPF.

“The police will continue to take tough enforcement action against illicit activities,” SPF added.

“Those found engaging in illicit activities, or in breach of safe distancing measures, will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.”

Those who fail to comply with safe distancing measures may be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.

The offences of providing public entertainment and supplying liquor without a valid licence each carry a fine of up to S$20,000. CNA

PM and all you ministers - Listen here. Singaporeans have been agile and decisive to adhere to all the safety measures put up by you to combat the pandemic since more than a year ago. Your loosening of measures since beginning of this year are evidence of us never letting our guard down to protect our homeland and our fellow countrymen. We were clean until you, the government let in people from high risk countries despite your people telling you to ban them and flights temporarily since more than two months ago.

You now have the audacity to blame Singaporeans for the dire impact on some industries because if that partial ban. Hello! That ban was just two weeks ago?!! And we get the blame? Now, who do we blame now for the return to tight measurements and fear of returning to circuit breaker because of the import of the contagious virus by people from that high risk country? Ordinary Singaporeans like the ICA staff working at the airport? The Philippines nurse and patients in TTSH? Or that bloke who openly gave tips to circumvent your much loopholed policy so that people from high risk countries can still come in?

Come on, you are not talking to a bunch of idiots who cannot differentiate facts and lies. We know for certain that the rebound of the pandemic in Singapore is due to the government's indecisiveness, complacency, money over lives attitude that hampered you to implement a total ban immediately - Singaporeans, PRs, all past holders, all travellers, all flights from those countries. We are very clear about who are the spreaders that are now harming Singapore and our economy. Definitely not the law abiding Singaporeans. Stop blaming us.

Singapore PM: Don’t let guard down on Covid-19, another lockdown would be major setback to economic recovery

SINGAPORE, May 2 — Urging Singaporeans to not let their guard down in the light of new community clusters of Covid-19 in recent days, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong warned on Saturday (May 1) that another lockdown would be a “major setback” to Singapore’s economic recovery, which is presently on track to return the nation to pre-pandemic levels this year.

Noting that that some of the new Covid-19 clusters that have emerged are “quite big and worrying”, he said: “The Government is doing everything we can to prevent these clusters from spreading further in the community.

“We will have to be agile and decisive with our response and tighten measures promptly where necessary to clamp down on the spread and avoid going into a second circuit breaker.

“I hope Singaporeans will work with us, and not let down our guard down. It is not time to relax yet. This is a marathon... Let’s keep ourselves safe.”

PM Lee was speaking to around 200 union leaders and tripartite partners of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) in his annual May Day Rally held in the D’Marquee at Downtown East. Last year, his speech was delivered online and on television during the circuit breaker period.

Singapore’s economy is expected to grow between 4 and 6 per cent in 2021, according to official forecasts.
