The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has arrested 13 foreign workers believed to be working illegally as cleaners at a food centre at Block 115, Bukit Merah View.

The arrests were made on May 30 during an inspection, an MOM spokesman said. Of the 13, 10 were student pass holders, and the remaining three were on social visit passes.

The workers, believed to be in their 20s, were mostly from India. The MOM spokesman said they may be prosecuted or repatriated.

Offenders of the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act face a maximum punishment of a $15,000 fine and a year in prison.
