The family of a "beloved" 12-year-old who died after collapsing on his school field has paid tribute, saying his "boundless enthusiasm" and "infectious laughter" touched everyone who knew him.

Staff at the Telford Langley School in Dawley, Shropshire, called 999 after the boy, named Joshua Lloyd, collapsed on Friday afternoon.

He was already in a critical condition when emergency services – including the Midlands Air Ambulance – arrived.

Josh was rushed to the nearby Princess Royal Hospital in Telford but was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.

His family have now set up a fundraising page to support his parents.

They said the purpose of the page was to "honour the precious life of our Joshua".

The family wrote: It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of Joshua's untimely passing at the tender age of 12.

"[Josh was] a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend who brought endless joy and love to all those around him.

"His infectious laughter, kind heart, and boundless enthusiasm touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him."

Police are not treating Josh's death as suspicious.

The JustGiving page dedicated to Joshua's memory aimed to raise £500 but by Monday afternoon had already reached £7,000 as word spread.

A post on the page read: "In the midst of this profound loss, we stand together to extend our support to Joshua's parents, who now face the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to their beloved son.

"In addition to the emotional burden they bear, they also confront the daunting task of arranging a proper farewell for their precious son, Joshua.

"While no amount of support can fully heal their hearts, we can come together as a community to provide some relief in their time of need."

Well-wishers were told that their donations would assist with funeral expenses, and offer Joshua's parents support "as they take time off from work to mourn their devastating loss".

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics arrived within six minutes of the 999 call.

He said: "We were called to reports of a child who had collapsed at Langley School in Dawley, Telford. The first ambulance arrived six minutes after the call and was backed up by a second ambulance, a paramedic manager and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.

"On arrival, crews found a patient in a critical condition, already receiving medical support from bystanders. Crews took over and provided advanced care to the child before he was taken on blue lights to Princess Royal Hospital.

"The doctor and critical care paramedic on the aircraft travelled with the ambulance crew on the way to hospital, where medics were on standby to receive the child.

"Sadly, shortly after arrival at hospital it became apparent nothing could be done to save the child despite everyone's best efforts and he was confirmed deceased."

A West Mercia Police spokesman added: "West Midlands Ambulance Service alerted us that they were responding to a medical emergency involving a child at a school in Telford. Tragically the child died in hospital that afternoon. His death isn't being treated as suspicious. The thoughts of all of us are with his family and friends."
