111 arrested in island-wide drugs bust

SINGAPORE: A total of 111 suspect drug offenders were arrested in a four-day island-wide operation, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said on Friday (Aug 8). Fifteen of them are suspected drug traffickers while 96 are suspected drug abusers.
In a statement, CNB said about 115g of heroin, 112g of ‘Ice’, 81g of ketamine, 348g of cannabis, 165 Erimin-5 tablets and 60 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets were seized from the whole operation. A small amount of synthetic cannabis was also seized. The drugs seized in this operation are estimated to be worth more than S$43,000.
Officers from the Singapore Police Force also supported the operation, and the areas combed include Ang Mo Kio, Boon Lay, Choa Chu Kang, Geylang, Henderson, Jurong, Punggol and Woodlands.
One of the suspects caught is a 50-year-old man who was arrested at Lorong 40 Geylang. He was found with 14.5g of ‘Ice’, 40 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, 55 Erimin-5 tablets and 18g of ketamine. A further search of his home at New Upper Changi Road uncovered 70.5g of ‘Ice’, 58g of ketamine, 110 Erimin-5 tablets, 10 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets and a small amount of cannabis. He could face up to five years' jail if convicted of drug trafficking. - CNA/xk
