SINGAPORE - A total of 107 persons were arrested in an islandwide crackdown on illegal activities over two days.

The joint operation, which ended Sunday morning, targeted various offences ranging from commercial crimes and property offences to drug- and gang-related activities, illegal moneylending to peddling of sexual enhancement products and contraband cigarettes.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Central Narcotics Bureau, Health Sciences Authority and Singapore Customs conducted targeted raids and proactive checks at locations including entertainment outlets, coffee shops, youth hangouts, and the back alleys of Geylang, Joo Chiat and HarbourFront.

The suspects arrested comprised 27 males and 80 females, who age between 17 and 61 years old. Investigations against them are ongoing, the police said in a written statement to the media today.

The police said, "(they) will continue to take tough enforcement actions, together with other law enforcement agencies, against those inclined to crime and illegal activities."

It also warned that more of such enforcement operations can be expected as part of ongoing efforts to keep crime off the streets.
