More than 100 policemen will provide security for a meeting between key figures in the Yingluck Shinawatra government and Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda at his Si Sao Thewes residence in Bangkok today.

The meeting _ a courtesy visit of PM Yingluck supposedly to ask for blessings from the elder statesman on the occasion of the Thai traditional new year _ is widely seen as the latest move towards national reconciliation.

"Some 150 police officers plus riot police will be on standby to guarantee order," Bangkok Police Division 1 chief Pachara Boonyasit said.

Deputy Prime Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa said besides himself Ms Yingluck will bring along Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong to Gen Prem's Si Sao Thewes residence at 3.30pm today. No other cabinet ministers will attend.

The meeting has come under the spotlight because Deputy Agriculture Minister Nattawut Saikuar was one of the leaders of the red shirts who led protests against Gen Prem at his residence in July 2007 to demand his resignation from the privy council.

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat praised Gen Prem for welcoming the prime minister's delegation. He hopes Gen Prem will forgive and "let bygones be bygones".
