1) Qatar has been ranked as the world's richest country per capita in a new list compiled by US-based Forbes magazine. Blessed with the third-largest natural gas reserves in the world, the Arab Gulf emirate of 1.7 million people is benefitting from a rebound in oil prices. Adjusted for purchasing power (PPP), Qatar has an estimated gross domestic product per capita of $88,222.

2) In second place on the list is Luxembourg, with a per capita GDP on a purchasing-power parity (PPP) basis of $81,466.

3)Technology, manufacturing and finance hub Singapore is ranked third on the list. The country’s GDP (PPP) per capita is $56,694 (estimated from 2009).

4)To rank the world’s wealthiest countries, Forbes looked at GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power for 182 nations.
At No.4, with a GDP (PPP) per capita of $51,959 (estimated from 2009) is Norway.

5)Oil-rich Brunei (ranked at No.5) has a GDP (PPP) per capita of $48,333.
Forbes used International Monetary Fund data from 2010, the most recent available, while GDP figures for some countries were projections.

6)UAE oil reserves are ranked as the world's sixth-largest[ and it possesses one of the most developed economies in West Asia. The country’s GDP (PPP) per capita is $47,439 (estimated from 2009).

7)With a GDP (PPP) per capita of $46,860, US is ranked at No.7 on the Forbes list.
According to Forbes, the PPP-adjusted GDP—preferred by economists when making international comparisons—takes into account the relative cost of living and inflation rates, rather than just exchange rates, which may distort real differences in worth.

8)Hong Kong is renowned for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour. As one of the world's leading international financial centres, Hong Kong has a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation and free trade, and the currency, Hong Kong dollar, is the eighth most traded currency in the world. Hong Kong has a GDP (PPP) per capita of $45,944

9)Switzerland is one of the richest countries in the world by per capita gross domestic product [GDP (PPP) per capita: $41,950]. It also has one of the world's largest account balances as a percentage of GDP.

10)The Netherlands was one of the world’s first countries to have an elected parliament. And the benefits of democracy seem to be reaching its citizens. Its GDP (PPP) per capita is $40,973.

Shouldn't Japan be the richest country in the world? besides their technology, fame, culture impact, reputation is God compare to Singapore.
Singapore is rich, but other than that they suck in everything else in my opinion, this is why most people don't give an crap about Singapore. If we weren't kissing China ass we would have progressed much further. They also SUCKS in terms of government and politics. They are dogs to CCP who allow these ah tiongs to screw us. So what if we are rich? do we have our own official status? own movies and songs from our own dialect and native culture? we speak mandarin and write in simplified Chinese. Now even my cousins travel abroad to malaysia because they don't want to pay the University that Singaporeans are giving it free to the PRC dogs.

The only country in Asia I admire if Japan, see how influential their J-POP, football team, manga, technology, martial arts, movies, AV, video games in the world, the only problem they have is that Americans U.S base occupies Japan and controls their military, but other than that they are the ideal Asia or world country. Even Hong Kong movies and Hong Kong actors (Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Sammo hung ect) have dominated the world film industry for some decades and influenced Hollywood. What about Singapore? we couldn't even have an school for our own dialect.

There is a difference between reality and perception, just because you don't like them or they are not good at keeping local culture means they must be very bad at handling the economy. Which is precisely the opposite which is why even when they are so hated, many pple still vote for them coz they know if anything, at least this government keeps the country running and the money flowing. GDP may not mean a whole lot to the man on the street but it does mean a whole lot to how healthy a country's economy is. At the end of the day, it is making sure the country doesn't collapse, make sure the unemployment and poverty rate is low that is important

This is precisely my point, the only thing Singapore are an great competition to the world is economy, but other than that there is nothing special or competitive about Singapore. It lacks on way many things, it's like almost nobody cares about Singapore. You see people from the world talking about Japan their culture, music, technology ect, or South Korea ( K-dramas, K-Pop). Even to some extend they talk about Hong kong, Taiwan. They even talk about China and North Korea, although it's for negative reasons most of the time. But since when has anyone talked about Singapore apart from Singaporeans themselves? this just shows that Singaporeans have no impact anywhere the world. I want Singapore to be an influential country, but we are always influenced by the PRC government. Singaporean leaders are just an puppet to PRC. You say unemployment and poverty rate is low? true, but than why do my cousins need to migrate to Malaysia to avoid paying the fees.

Low unemployment rate and poverty is different from NO unemployment and poverty

U go to just about any country in the world, including places with ridiculous welfare like UK and France, there are still homeless pple. SG government is not puppets of China. They are realist, and they suck up to anyone whom the money is going to come from. Last time US rich they suck up to the US, now China rich they lean towards China. U look at local culture, it's still a work in progress. The government only recently started investing in the arts. Japan, Korea have centuries to develop their culture. It's going to take a long time to catch up. Ultimately when it comes down to it the economy will always comes first. Would U rather we have world class singers and actors but lotsa pple with no jobs?

I rather we have an good economy with some fame, cultural impact, reputation. Economy is not anything, there are many ways to measure an country success. Aside from economy you have to relate history, world class talents, cultural impact, success. Japan is also one of the world richest country, but they can compete the world with almost everything. The only thing Singaporeans can compete is economy.

You ask who is superior Japan or Singapore? 99.9% of them will say Japan. For example Japan football team winning the Asia Cup 4 times, and even winning the world cup. 2 times world baseball Champion. I understand Singapore have an small population even Hong Kong once won the East asian champion once and won some gold medals. What about Singapore? you say we have a lot of jobs true, but many or our jobs are reserved for the PRC mainlanders. What will become of Singapore in the future? it will be completely dominated by the PRC Chinese population. Singaporeans will lose their native identity one day. Even the Mongols are poor as crap today, but look at their history. They have once conquered half of the world, this is an very great achievement that even the rich South Koreans wants to relate with them.

actually the richest country is England.............the Queen herself own 1/6th of all land on the planet..........

if The City of London is a country, then it's the richest..............the Rothschilds has more money than the rest of the world put together

To be completely honest, the Asians who give me the most pride as an Asians are the Mongols. Even though they once conquered China, I admire them for being able to conquer from Eastern europe, middle east, central Asia, portion of South Asia. Even the Timurid and Mughals who ruled middle east and south Asia (India) are the half descendant of Mongols. How can any Asian not admire them? they clearly showed the that caucasians were not the only people that were able to rule the world. And that Asian people dominated the world way before Europeans ever did in 16th century.
