The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has taken action against 10 firms after finding their job ads to be discriminatory and not in line with the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices.

The firms had to put up public apologies online for 30 days, and are barred from hiring new foreign workers for six months after the apologies were put up. In their ads, they had mentioned specific attributes such as age, gender or nationality, but could not provide valid justifications for doing so.

The MOM gave details of the firms in a statement on Wednesday. The firms are PSC Biotech, Winshire Education Centre, Dr.Ci:Labo, Modern Pak, Global Citizen Forum, Youbook, Accredit HR Consultancy, Stafflink Services, Sky Asia Consulting and Zingmi.

This is the second time this year which MOM has taken action against discriminatory job ads. The first was in March when two firms - Expedia Singapore and Incofood Singapore - were dealt with.

Probably have no proper HR department. If they had no need to pull stunt like this, just get the HR guys to "filter" out pple they don't want

What is the point of going after small fries LOCAL SMEs?
if MOM was really serious about stemming discriminatory hiring practices. just take a look at the MNCs CITIBANK, STANDARD CHARTERED , DBS etc.
It was already in the news.rampant abuses -however until now no punishment?too scare of the big boys I guess? who holds the gold makes the rules typical government only bully the locals .

Are they including sex and age in the discrimination ads just to camouflage actions against discrimination on nationalities, ethnic group, and country of origin, so that foreign employers cant complain?

Much ado about nothing. Even if the company does not put up discriminatory ad, they have already made up their mind which nationality they intend to hire. Many would be wasting their time going for the interview.

yes this is especially true when they are the ones holding the gold. eg. the MNCs.
you think the indians and the appointed HR managers are afraid of TCJ?

Much ado about nothing. Even if the company does not put up discriminatory ad, they have already made up their mind which nationality they intend to hire. Many would be wasting their time going for the interview.
