SINGAPORE: Train services on some Circle Line stations were disrupted at 6am on Wednesday, affecting 1,400 passengers.
SMRT cites a communication network problem.
This is the second disruption since the line was fully opened this year and the eighth since its phased opening in 2009.
Those who travelled between the Marymount and One-North MRT stations found themselves running late in their journeys.
The disruption began at 6am, and lasted just 40 minutes.
But trains were delayed for more than five hours as a result of the disruption.
While engineers managed to partially-restore the services along the affected stretch, peak hour trains could not be deployed to meet the morning peak frequency.
Train services resumed normal operations around 11,45am.
Things have returned to normal at the Buona Vista station, but one item that cannot be recovered is the time spent during the delay. Many were stuck in the affected stations for an average of 20 minutes.
SMRT said it activated about 100 staff to help commuters.
Buses were also deployed to ferry them between the two stations, but commuters say the situation could have been better-managed.
"They were saying that trains were cancelled, people should take buses. So people were actually leaving. But there was no verbal announcement from the train staff what was happening. So people were kind of confused over what was going on."
"Even when boarding the train, I think the journey wasn't exactly smooth, there were a few stops in between. So I wasn't sure exactly why. There wasn't any reason or announcement to explain what happened."
"The shuttle service came pretty fast from the announcement in the station, so we could get to the shuttle bus quite early. But the problem was the driver was not told where to go!"
Many took their frustrations online, especially on microblogging site Twitter.
One user described the Circle Line as being "constantly in repair and construction". The comment ended up being "retweeted" by many others.
Some attempted to provide constructive criticism.
Adeline Wong suggested that announcements be made in all stations, not just those that were affected.
In no time, the Circle Line even became a trending topic.
SMRT says passengers are unlikely to be charged for overstaying in the stations due to the disruption, unless they were stuck within the network for more than two hours.
But passengers who were unable to complete their journeys can file a claim for refund at any SMRT station.
