Dear fellow true blue Singaporeans,

It is really now or never. Even if you have not been affected so far, look around you. Do you know of any Singaporeans suffering? Are you sure you will stay safe for the next 5 yrs? 10 yrs?

From the reactions of the incumbent, it is rather apparent that they have been caught off-guard by the reactions from the ground.

The old campaign tactics have not been well received unlike in previous years. Smear campaigns. Threats. Carrots.

In the past, it is usually just a handful of people in a few contested constituencies that are dissatisfied. That is easily solved with Gerry-Mandering. Just split those people up. Absorb them into other GRCs.

But, this round, the dissatisfaction is spread all over Singapore. If we are not careful, if we leave the hard decisions to other people in other constituencies thinking that their alternative MP can speak for us while we enjoy our new paint in our own, what do you think will happen?

It is only a matter of time before PR's of other Nationality will be allowed to vote. Unfair?? But when are elections ever fair?

Look at the figures. There are now more than 5 million residents n Singapore. Yet only 2.4 million are going to the polls this sat and this includes new citizens! Born and bred Singaporeans are already the minority.

If PRs of other nationality gets to vote, you will never have the chance to get your own voice heard through votes again. Policies will be fashioned to please the majority voters who mostly are unfortunately not really here to stay for life.

If you think it is impossible, unimaginable that PRs holding other passports will ever get to vote, read on. There are already many countries, including Hong Kong and South Korea that allow foreigners to vote. But note that unlike us, their born and bred citizens outnumber the foreigners.

Think again. Think hard. Vote wisely. Don't just leave it to others. You may not get another chance when you get marginalized.

Argentina
Article 61 of the Constitution of the city of Buenos Aires states that "Suffrage is free, equal, secret, universal, compulsory and not accumulative. The foreign residents enjoy this right, with the correlative obligations, on equal terms with Argentine citizens registered in this district, in the terms established by the law."

Chile
The 1980 Chilean Constitution states in its article 14 that "Foreigners residing in Chile for more than five years and who comply with the requirements prescribed in the first paragraph of Article 13, may exercise the right to vote in the cases and in the manner determined by law.". Article 13 states that "Citizens are those Chileans who have reached the age of eighteen years and who have never been sentenced to afflictive punishment.".[31] A 2005 constitutional reform introduced a second line to article 14, by which eligibility rights of naturalized citizens only occur 5 years after being granted a naturalization card.

Colombia
In 1991, the constitution was changed to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections, but the changes were not immediately implemented.[8] On July 31, 2006, Colombia approved voting by foreigners for mayors and city council elections. To vote, foreigners must have been residents of Colombia for 5 years and must register with the electoral authorities. Voting is not compulsory and voting aliens have the same voting-related privileges citizens would.

Denmark
(EU member) Voting and eligibility rights were granted to Nordic Passport Union country citizens with a 3 years residence condition for municipal and county elections in 1977. These rights were extended to all foreign residents in 1981. In 1995, the 3 years residence requirement was abolished for EU residents, in conformity with the European legislation, and also for Nordic residents.

Finland
(EU member) Voting and eligibility rights were granted to Nordic Passport Union country citizens without residence condition for municipal elections in 1981. These rights were extended to all foreign residents in 1991 with a 2 years residence condition. In 1995 (Law 365/95, confirmed by Electoral Law 714/1998), the residence requirement was abolished for EU residents, in conformity with the European legislation.[38] Section 14, al. 2 of the 2000 Constitution of Finland states that "Every Finnish citizen and every foreigner permanently resident in Finland, having attained eighteen years of age, has the right to vote in municipal elections and municipal referendums, as provided by an Act. Provisions on the right to otherwise participate in municipal government are laid down by an Act."

Greece
(EU member) EU residents have voting and eligibility rights for local and European elections. In 2010, these rights were extended for local elections to the other foreigners, but with severe administrative restrictions.[49] As a result, only 12,762 foreign residents out of a potential electorate of 266,250 actually registrered to vote for the November 2010 local elections.[50]

Hong Kong, China
Voting is a relatively recent right in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, initiated only towards the end of the British colonial period (1842–1997) and enlarged[citation needed] somewhat after the handover to the People’s Republic of China. For this “special administrative region”, the right to vote accompanies a person’s permanent resident status in Hong Kong, not their citizenship.[53]
The right of Hong Kong permanent residents to vote is guaranteed in Article 26 of the Basic Law, where nationality is not even mentioned. And as stipulated in Article 24, permanent residents include foreign persons who have taken up permanent residency in Hong Kong for more than 7 years and other persons (regardless of nationality) who have right of abode in Hong Kong only.
While voting by persons holding foreign passports has gone largely unchallenged, there is some indication that increasing appeals to patriotism may make non-citizen voting an issue of debate in the future.[53] For those who are permanent residents of the territory but not concurrently citizens of the People's Republic of China, their permanent residency will be lost if they leave the territory for more than 3 years

Iceland
Voting and eligibility rights were granted to Nordic Passport Union country citizens with a 3 years residence condition for municipal elections in 1986. These rights were extended to all foreign residents in 2002 with a 5 years residence condition.[38]

South Korea
Revisions to voting laws in 2005 allow foreign nationals aged 19 years and older who have lived in South Korea for more than three years after obtaining permanent resident visas to vote in local elections. 6,746 foreign residents (out of more than 1 million) were eligible to vote in the May 31, 2006 local elections.[77]

Sweden
(EU member) Voting and eligibility rights were granted to all foreign residents with a 3 years residence condition for municipal and county elections in 1975. The 3 years reside condition was suppressed in 1997 for residents from EU (in conformity with the European legislation) and the Nordic Passport Union. The voters enrolment is automatic.[38]

Yes. It is our last chance. As proven many times in history, the PAP is very vindicative. Genocide of Singaporeans will be carried out if they have their "mandate".

You have 2 choices today:
1) Vote for opposition and convince your family and friends to do so
2) Emigrate and be 2nd class citizen rightfully in another country instead of your own.

GREATEST FEAR after GE2011
by Windy Voice on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 1:47am

Dear fellow Singaporeans, friends, Alternative (Oppositions) Parties, PAP supporters and PAP moles who will be reading this.

This note is not going to tell a tale of whether to fire our maid anot or whether PAP is fair or unfair in the past elections or how badly or how good PAPhave perform for past 5 years but this note is going to highlight my GREATEST FEAR which so far I have yet seen any netizens posted out.

After watching TV broadcast about the WP rally host @ HG SMC, I have a chat/ discussion with my dad.I found out that for the past few elections, there're always so much viewers @ Opposition parties rallies. But however in the end, every elections, the Opposition parties do not get enough votes to get into the parliament. Hence, our parliament never have enough (>1/3) alternative voice to cancel any bills proposed by PAP.

After some research online, I've concluded something: That this election is not a joke! And do you know what I fear most? The unstoppable bills by PAP in Parliament House!

Kindly vote for all Alternative (Oppositions) Parties in your area! No matter if they are good or bad, new or old, even you trust or do not trust them! Why? Because this election we really need at least need 1/3 non-pap members inside parliament. Why?

Because if after this election, PAP still take >80 seats. Any bills proposed by them will passed through and cannot be block because we do not have enough non-pap members to voice out and reject those bills. If in the next 5 years, PAP suddenly make a bill like in Hong Kong (SAR) where they let all Permanent residents (PRs) to vote. Next election, we, the TRUE BLUE BLOOD Singaporeans' voting powers will be totally gone.Kindly take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_Hong_Kong

If in the next 5 years, PAP suddenly make a bill like in Hong Kong (SAR) where they let all Permanent residents (PRs) to vote. Next election, we, the TRUE BLUE BLOOD Singaporeans' voting powers will be totally gone.

[...Any Hong Kong permanent resident (PR) aged 18 or above may register as an elector in the geographical constituency in which he/she resides, except those mentally incapacitated and those serving in an armed force...
...Article 21 of The Basic Law of HKSAR stipulates:
Chinese citizens (PRCs) who are residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall be entitled to participate in the management of state affairs according to law. In accordance with the assigned number of seats and the selection method specified by the National People's Congress, the Chinese citizens among the residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall locally elect deputies of the Region to the National People's Congress to participate in the work of the highest organ of state power...]

So, am I just another Chicken Little crying that the sky is falling? You may think PAP will not dare to create such a bill and even if they will, they would have created it long before. But think twice, if PAP create such a bill in the past, Singaporeans will be alert about there's a large inflow of PRs who can vote in elections. And the limited amount of PRs would not be able to vote and support PAP even if elections were held.

But story is different now, after these few years of largely import of Permanent Resident (PRs), we are totally surrounded by PRs, PAP are now able/ ready to propose such a bill. Anytime, just one time, they can just create a bill to allow PRs to vote in coming election 2016 and we are dead meat. These PRs will definitely vote for PAP to ensure they can stay here and replace ALL SINGAPOREANS.

Anytime, just one time, they can just create a bill to allow PRs to vote in coming election 2016 and we are dead meat.

That's why for this GE2011, if PAP are still holding at least 2/3 of the 87 seats, the Bills proposed by PAP will pass through like flowing water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_Parliament

In fact, there should never ever be any single party in a parliament in the first place because they act like a monarchy with total government powers in their hands. Any bills is exactly an orders. Whatever voting process they may go through are for public show. Tell me have you seen before who from PAP will dare to stand out and opposed their own PAP policies bill?

Hence, this GE2011 is very important, no, maybe I should say this is the MOST IMPORTANT election ever! PAP has already note on that this time the ground is not that sweet and there are many citizens are not happy with their policies. After GE2011, they try their best to make any bill to pass in Parliament in order ensure itself staying as incumbent. One of such bill maybe to let Permanent Residents (PRs) to vote to support them.

Wake up, my dear fellow Singaporeans. Do not overlook these details. Kindly avoid the same mistake again and again. We can not afford to make mistake again or we (PAP supporters and PAP moles included) will be totally replaced by PRs! Never give absolute power to a single party. Dun just think/ focus on PAP policies of economic growth, they are "icing on cake", PAP are going to replace us ALL with PRs after GE2011.

Hence, above briefly mentions my GREATEST FEAR for GE2011. Every Singaporeans, dun joke about for this election. Every vote counts. This is not a game. Vote wisely.

Vote the Alternative (Oppositions) Party in! Vote for any party! WP, SDP, SPP, NSP, RP, SDA!
Trust our future in their hands! In fact, actually we dun have a choice! It's now or never!
WE MUST REALLY HAVE >1/3 of the 87 seats filled with Alternative (Oppositions) parties!
In order to not get replace by the PRs!

Let us have a First World IDEAL Republic of Singapore - Majulah Singapura!

= Windy Voice 2011 =

---------

Above article is the work of Windy Voice. He/She happened to be advocating the same view as Majulah! ; but he/she went even further to highlight the potential threat that exist for Singapore - honestly, I am totally shocked by the prospect and the possibility, in fact, the existence of such law in Hong Kong already.

I strongly urge EVERYONE to VOTE AGAINST THE PAP.

PAP already have a lot of loyal votes, they wont get kicked out so suddenly. It is the undecided voters like you that will make the difference.

VOTE FOR THE OPPOSITION REGARDLESS WHO ARE THE CANDIDATES! WE NEED TO DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION!

Sadly, there are two types of people who are likely to vote for the pap.

1) the old and uneducated. They do not have access to the internet, and believe that the pap is still what it was like in the early days.

2) the conceited successful. They are happy with the status quo because it allows them to keep on making money. Increases in ERP, GST, gas/water, petrol, etc do not affect them.

We can't do anything about category2, because they will want to protect their self interests.
But if those in category 1 are not doing well in life, do we try to persuade them pre-election and post election, NOT help them so that they will have to realise life is harsh under pap. This is very harsh, but is there any other way?
Btw, there are many more categories than just 2.

For the old and uneducated, it is our job to inform them. Start from your own families. Your neighbors. Do they want to end up being thrown to JB now that they are no longer contributing?

For the conceited and successful, if you can convince them, good. If not, don't waste time on the selfish. The successful are not the majority. Otherwise, the uproar wouldn't be so great this time, right?

For all of the 3 above categories, show them the Gerald Giam article about how votes are really secret in spite of the numbers.

Talk to them! Go. If you don't do it, you will not get another chance again!!

Don't let yourself regret and "repent" when the constitution changes!

Not all. I met a taxi uncle who has a child working in the civil service holding senior mgt post. He says his neighours and himself will support wp if they contest in their constituency.

His child faced rejection under our education system, but made it overseas and our civil service employed his child.

It is only a matter of time before PR's of other Nationality will be allowed to vote. Unfair?? But when are elections ever fair?

It is no longer just a matter of time, it is already in the Election Department's work-in-progress policy to allow PRs to vote. The bill to this effect will be passed in 2013/2014. This is the last elections where only citizens are allowed to vote.

Singaporeans, regardless of race, please exercise your rights to vote to ensure more voices in Parliament.
Cause if you still vote PAP and PAP still holds 90% majority, you can only blame yourselves.

Of course. Nobody here has ever argued the PAP is not efficient.
If the voter does not take it upon himself to decide his own destiny, he/she can be rest assured the PAP will choose his/her destiny for him.
