A couple was in an argument in a multi-storey carpark. In a fit of intense emotions, the man wielded a knife and stabbed himself in the chest.
This incident took place at around 5pm in the afternoon yesterday(Dec 2), at the multi-storey carpaek of Block 671A, at Woodlands Drive Street 71.
Mr Chew, reader of Lianhe Wanbao spoke to Wanbao that he was driving in the carpark at about 5pm on that day, when he stumbled upon a man lying motionless on level 2, with a knife stuck on his chest.
According to him, the man was lying right beside a grey car which had the driver's door open.
Mr Chew then understood from an eye-witness that the guy was in an intense argument with his girlfriend on the vehicle, and both parties got really agitated.
While the lady was not paying attention, the man took out a knife and stabbed himself on the left of his chest, passing out almost immediately.
The lady who was on the car then, got a rude shock when she realised her boyfriend stabbed himself. She immediately
performed CPR on him, and even tried to stop the bleeding.
Noticing that things were not right, the eye-witness made a police report quickly.
When the SCDF arrive at the scene, the man was already in a coma. The medics then took him to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for emergency care.
When Wanbao reached the scene, a lady in her thirties was seen sitting at the corner of the carpark, looking worried and talking to the Police.
The lady told a report that the injured man is her boyfriend, and the incident happened outside the car. When asked if his injuries are serious, she expressed that she was not sure and was unwilling to elaborate more.
A spokesperson from the Police says that a 34-year-old man attempted suicide and was sent to Khoo Teck Puat hospital in a coma. It is understood that his injuries are serious, and his is still in an unstable condition.
There was not much blood on the scene, but many curious passers-by stuck around when they noticed that an area of the carpark has been cordoned off by the Police.
Due to the fact that there was only a little pool of blood at the carpark, it was difficult to tell that such an incident occured right there.
Initially, the Police only cordoned off four parking lots, but the area they blocked out eventually expanded to the whole of level two, of the multi-storey carpark.
It is said that four Police returned to the scene for further investigation at 8pm.
Based on what the Wanbao reporter noticed, there was a blood-washed knife on the floor, together with a box right beside it. It is believed that the box was formerly used to package the knife.
The knife is believed to be the one used by the man to stab himself, and the box may imply that it was a brand new knife. This could mean that it was a planned move by the man.
According to Wanbao, the knife was short but the blade was about 15cm long. The entire blade was tainted with blood , which probably meant that the entire blade went into the man's chest.
Besides the knife, there was also a messenger bag found with blood stains, as well as a utility knife that is unopened. It is believed that the utility knife was newly bought together with the knife that the man used to stab himself.
There were also two types of painkillers found on the scene, left behind by the injured man.
