I've lived there for more than half my life and I too come to exactly the same conclusion. Singapore is one of the best places on earth.
What I like most about the country is that it does not reward the losers of society. Instead, it rewards hard work and enterprise which is the way it should be.
in 1880, mark twain wrote to lucius fairchild, former governor of wisconsin, and derided san franciscans about their negativity and frequent whining. he and fairchild were in paris during the summer of 1879, and the weather was miserable. unlike the weather in sf. he described in a journal that sf had all the good and happy things such as "birds", "flowers", "sunshine", "chinamen"
, but instead of gratefully speaking of these "things that make life happy", san franciscans would be complaining of everything.
"they damn the wind, they damn the dust, and they give all their attention to damning them well, and to all eternity."
sinkies are exactly the same as the san franciscans of the 1860s, 1870s, and 1880s. they were surrounded by things that exuded happiness, yet they failed to see all the positives that overwhelmed the place.
