Clueless Desmond continues to blame M'sia Saw, justify why he did not return to lead

SMRT's focus on profit is one of the many factors why the transport operator has been facing problems, according to its CEO Desmond Kuek.

Mr Kuek revealed this in an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, which SMRT reproduced on the SGX website yesterday.

"I had thought about flying back to Singapore after hearing about the illegal strike," he said. "But after knowing that the drivers had agreed to go back to work after talks on the first day, I thought the issue was resolved."

But Mr Kuek learned the following day that 88 drivers refused to return to work. As the long flight back to Singapore would prevent him from keeping abreast of the situation, he decided instead to stay put so that he could keep in constant touch with management.

Mr Kuek acknowledged that SMRT could have done better in its communication with the drivers but said that the contract terms were fair.

Oh goody. In that case, the CEO can take the lead and prove the management is not focused on profit by taking a pay cut, and then concentrate on making the company a better service provider with the savings in salaries.

Correct !
A 50% pay cut would be considered sincere

First he said the problem was because SMRT was too focused on profits, then he end it with saying the contract terms were fair. So what is his stand?

Is this his excuse for vacationing in the US only into two months of his appointment as SMRT CEO?

He did not answer the most obvious question: why go on long holidays within weeks of taking over CEO smrt?

The tolerence of poor attitude of smrt ceo reflects very badly on transport minister and temasick.

Probation period doesn't apply to PAP cronies. If the person screwed up, it is not PAP fault, it is the people fault and we paid a heavy price for it. History of such incidents have provened so many times and 60% of the voters still don't get it. Sad isn't it?

Blaming it on others is a norm among our modern-day highly-educated, handsomely paid business maharajahs.

Was this technocrat, bureaucrat, aristocrat, autocrat, democrat or some other "crat" once in the Army as Chief?

Sadly this is the norm today and it is called "passing the buck".

During kampong days we would hit another and then said loudly in Hokkien, "Hit the Next".

"Gua Phark Lu, Lu Phark Ee"

When a disaster strikes, these people conveniently say, "ACT of GOD"

DK is using the PAP mouthpiece to salvage his reputation ...the more he speaks, the more we know of his incompetence and his lack of leadership. These scholars know how to take care of themselves ...they have been given a silverspoon by the PAP and they just have to serve the PAP and will continue to enjoy the freebies.

DK could keep spinning that the strike was illegal ...too bad that those workers have no one to speak on their behalf now. The PRC embassy should defend the workers. They didn't have an alternative to get SMRT management to address their issues. And the SMRT has violated the contract by not providing the PRC workers with acceptable accommodation. If a contract is violated and management has turned a deaf ear, the workers have every right to go on strike.

The PRC government should whack the sinkapore government hard on this.

Haven't the Ah Tiongs already exacted their revenge by bringing down some PAP-related websites? According to informed sources, the Ah Tiongs launched their attack by controlling some servers in Brazil. At first sight it appeared that the hacking activity was conducted in Brazil. But the Americans later found out that it was not so. This piece of news was not reported by our SCM (state-controlled media) for obvious reasons (they don't wish to antagonize the PRC government any further).
