SINGAPORE - Former Presidential candidate Dr Tan Cheng Bock has launched a book about his campaign, adding to the collection of election memorabilia he launched during the campaign.

Titled We Took Them On, the book is a photo diary of the events during the election in August. It was conceptualised and put together by Dr Tan's campaign volunteers.

Dedicating the book to his supporters, Dr Tan, 71, said the photo diary also features the volunteers who helped him, and captured the moments he shared with the many Singaporeans he met on his campaign trail.

Said Dr Tan yesterday: "We did a lot so it's better to capture all this in a book ... and it's also a very historical event. I think this PE is quite special. It's to let Singaporeans have an idea of what we went through."

Dr Tan lost the election by 0.35 per cent or 7,382 votes - out of the 2.16 million votes cast - to Dr Tony Tan, who was sworn in as Singapore's seventh President on Aug 27.

Dr Tan, who paid for the printing cost of the 1,300 books, said the money from the sales will be donated to the Handicaps Welfare Association, of which he was patron when he was Ayer Rajah MP.

The book costs S$20. To purchase a copy, go to his Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/TanChengBock.

Asked about his plans, Dr Tan advised new MPs: "Be prepared to get some parliamentary wounds, and not run away when they get these wounds. If they believe in a cause, they must stand up and fight for that cause." TANYA FONG
