Isn't this a form of subsidy through cheap land? Why isn't the full cost pass on to employers? The wages of foreign workers look cheap but when the full cost is factored in, the cost of employing a foreign worker would be higher than employing a true blue s'porean.
Without such subsidies...
Good question!
Did the transport companies lost big in their investments? If no disclosure is forthcoming, we will need to wait for their next annual reports.
Just heard from the news. Raymond said transport companies need to build up reserves for capital expenditure.
Then why SMRT gave out so much dividends to shareholders, of which Temasek is the largest of all?
Are the transport companies expecting the foreigners population to shrink drastically next year? If so, this could be a reason why transport companies aren't willing to lower fares.

Global demand is still shrinking and the bottom is still not seen yet. The retrenchments in the manufacturing sector will be very bad. This is a sector which has lots of foreigners and PRs. If they can't get a job after being retrenched, certainly they will need to sell their properties and go...
There are about 2 million people from third countries here. They bring their ungracious social habits along with them here. Hence, what you see in public places these days.
For those who are jobless and have no more savings, if they are not able to borrow any $$$ from friends/relatives and still don't beg, they will die of starvation in affluent S'pore.
How about HDB resale market?
Hopefully when the condo prices crash, there will be more HDB home owners upgrade to condos, in the process pushing down HDB resale market. When that happens, many S'poreans couples will be able to get more affordable housing to start families.
