Japan's national football team has always been accused of being defensively weak, vulnerable and easily penetrated through the middle of the field. The current team might look good on the wings and have a strong attack, but they lack the physical toughness, defensive discipline and structural resilience required to protect the central areas directly in front of their goal. Brazil exploited this "soft centre".
