China started to develop Batam Transhipment Port and will ban China cargoes (export and import) from being transshipped at Singapore PSA

What is the take on Li Ka Shing's HPH ports in China? PSA International A.k.a. Temasick has 20% stake. It wanted to sell but no buyers.
As I read, HPH has been automating its processes to save costs and expanding its cooperation with new ports in South China.

The indonesian fisherman pirates would be very happy to have so many ships on that side
You underestimated PRC. Once they have their port set-up, they will have legitimate excuses to send their military ship here in the name of keeping its own port and ships safe from harm. At the same time, it can also keep the America's military ships at bay here. Port serves so many "functions", not just for transhipments. Let's just say that Lawrence Wong screwed up this country by agitating PRC over Japanese issues.

Lawrence Wong isn't wrong.
It just time and period people are living in.
Sooner or later, the China will need to build their own shipping route.
Chinese wanted Asia on their own . Xi Jinping earlier say that The world is big enough to be shared by 2 great power. Pacific can be split into 2.

But now China's dream is crumbling.

Anyway the consumption of Chinese is dropping like flies. They develop and eat their own shit. They like to trade on their own and make others redundant.

It's good that trump come and beat the hell out of China.

Theirs Malaysia ports investments failed, how likely can Batam be successful?

Lawrence Wong missed the mark At his age, one would have thought he would be better knowledgeable about contemporary geopolitics and world history, especially in light of Donald Trump. Singapore recognised that China is expanding, but it should be mindful that America is no longer a trustworthy ally when war is concerned.

After gaining control of the Straits of Taiwan and the South China Sea, China has effectively checkedmate the Asia-Pacific area. Since history is always on China's side as a victimized country during WWII, there is no international law that prohibits it from taking back its belongings. To exacerbate the situation, America has long been harming the world, long before China has developed its economic and military might.

Returning to Singapore, which is well-known for its avarice, China ought to have been urged to establish a port here and permit its cutting-edge military marines to patrol the Malacca Straits against pirates who never seem to go away for ages. The trillions of commodities that are shipped from China to the rest of the globe via Singapore provide enormous financial potential because China is one of the world's largest exporters, selling goods everyone needs. Our common langauge, with China, put us in a better place than eleswhere when doing busineses, and we reduce the motive of China wanting Thailand to open up the Kra Canal thus hurting our trades with the world.

Everyone believes that China poses a threat. Japan is concerned that its goods won't be able to cross the South China Sea, and India believes that its goods won't be able to travel via Singapore. These concerns only make sense if the US military is actively engaged in combat mode in the East. Everyone has forgotten China's primary goal, which is to bring its people out of poverty and be open to doing business with all nations, whether they are allies or adversaries which reminds of your old grandpa hunger period.

Unlike America, India or certain G7 nations, China doesn't care whether it will become a world super power. It is cautious of the contentious West, the white supremacy culture, but show more restraint and respect for the South and the Eastern world and Singapore is in the right place to just keep our mouth shut when our politicians have nothing positive to say about other people.

China controls the Taiwan Straits and South China Sea. This is news to me. U forgot to take your meds today?

It's okay for 65% ... better to whack PS for lying to COP, that is more important !
They want the Nation to focus on PS case, not these Batam Port emerging

WHO died to make fantasy driven claims that communist China controls the OPEN WATERS for TRADE and Navigation in the South China Seas????

Under United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), adopted in 1982, ANY CONTROL of open sea rest ONLY upon 12 Nautical miles from a country's shore as Territorial waters. Any meters beyond the 12 Nautical miles are OPEN SEAS.

The South China Sea is far and wide, and much much further from ANY landmass beyond ANY Nation's claim of Territorial waters, even if ILLEGALLY built shoals - mere surface rocks that is above sea levels....

---------------------------------------

Singapore is a port city, and fortunate enough by NATURE to have much of its ENTIRE coastlines surrounded by DEEP WATERS, that even Triple E class big ships can berth just beside ANY port in Singapore, from Sembawang, to Changi, to Keppel, to Pasir Panjang, to Jurong.

Singapore is an open country and welcomes LEGAL shipping TRADE from any country. Our geographical location and our RESPONSIBILITIES and CONTRIBUTIONS to Humankind lays in such as it is a point whereby ALL compass points meets.

We tried our very best, had to stay opened for 24/7 to meet with Humanity's needs, and even had to recruit foreign workers as well as foreign talents even in high level management positions to MANAGE the huge numbers of berth and its safety, efficiency and operations we have as a RESPONSIBILITY to Humankind - to keep World Trade flowing flowing and efficiently, at times at high costs to our very own social fabric with the influx of foreigners into our beloved land whom does not share our cultures....

Batam Transhipment Port would be welcomed by us to take off some of the workloads and burdens We Singaporeans carry, (with port workers working the long hours and often underpaid, especially the contractor bosses whom keep profits to themselves unlike PSA whom shares profits with its workers and gives the bulk of such back to our National Treasury), as at times, if not MOST of the time, ships had to be kept waiting for hours at designated Anchorage points to find a regulated vacant spot to berth, and to load, unload cargoes.

Will Batam Transhipment Port fully take over our role?

It's laughable.....

JUST IN THE NEW JURONG PORT alone, built up and in operation, there ARE 30 berths for ships to perform their roles, 24/7. let alone the numerous other berths surrounding our country.

How many shipping berths are there in Batam and their operating hours? - only Singapore ports stays open 24/7, the other ports in S. E Asia and other countries are only open 9 to 5.

Secondly, every km spent in travel ADDS UP to logistics cost to shipping firms, in terms of labor and fuel costs ANNUALLY. And every cent counts in order to stay COMPETITIVE in the logistic biz, let alone social issues such as corruption and additional labor costs........and we had not even touched on yet on Administrative and workers EFFICIENCY of Batam.....

To berth at Batam, it would be several far more km, and when every cent counts, in a year, would prove far more costly......
