The family of an 88-year-old woman, who was allegedly hit by an electric bike in Hougang on Sep. 29, are appealing for witnesses.

The elderly victim was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her injuries and passed away the on Sep. 30.



Accident involved a power-assisted bicycle​



In response to Mothership's queries, the police confirmed that they were alerted to an accident involving a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) and a pedestrian along Hougang Street 51 towards Hougang Street 91 at about 8:05am.

The victim was conveyed unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, SCDF confirmed.

The police added that a 49-year-old male is assisting with ongoing investigations.



Family appealing for witnesses​



Following the incident, a nephew of the victim took to Facebook to appeal for eye-witnesses.

He revealed that the accident took place near Block 693 Hougang Street 51



Another one of the victim's relatives also took to Instagram to appeal for witnesses.

In a post on Sep. 29, she wrote that the victim was in "critical condition with massive brain damage" at the time.

Speaking to Mothership, a family member confirmed that the elderly woman had suffered major head trauma from the accident.



Eye-witness accounts​



In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, a 31-year-old foreign domestic worker said she was in the midst of hanging the clothes when she saw an ambulance.

An elderly woman was seen lying on the road and her head appeared to have been bleeding.

Several passers-by were seen trying to help her.

"There were still traces of blood on the road afterwards," she added.

An electric bike, which appeared to he used by food delivery riders, was parked on the sidewalk.

WTF, accident at Hougang St 51, why send to Tan Tock Seng and not Sengkang General?
 
E-bikes, PMDs, PMAs and anything that has a motor should only be operated by riders who are licensed and have insurance coverage. All these devices must also have a licence plate. Treat them just like motorcyclists.
