You forget that the Opposition was even more pathetic 2 decades ago compared to today. The cost of living then was nowhere as high as today. As a PME couple in our early 30s, my Mrs and I managed to upgrade from a resale HDB to a condo, and we owned a modest car only a few years after graduating from NUS.
